Discover Sulíkov
Accommodation in Sulíkov
Sulíkov combines sacred architecture with marked trails and viewpoints. The Chapel of Saint Monica and Saint Augustine and the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene give the village’s history two distinct architectural landmarks. Cycling and hiking add to its cultural history, while the hills and surrounding area offer further perspectives for planning your trip.
Chapel and Church
The Chapel of Saint Monica and Saint Augustine stands out for its teardrop-shaped floor plan. This shape symbolizes Saint Monica’s tears for her son, Saint Augustine. The chapel was consecrated on 30 August 1998. The floor plan and religious symbolism are therefore central to this building.
The Church of Saint Mary Magdalene dates from the 13th century. Its chancel tower is probably of early Gothic origin and is one of the few unusually well-documented examples in Moravia. Sulíkov therefore offers two distinct architectural landmarks to explore: the symbolism of the chapel’s floor plan and the church’s early building history, including its chancel tower.
Cycling and Hiking Trails
Marked local cycling routes pass through Sulíkov. Marked cycling route 5085 runs along the Kunštát–Rudka–Sulíkov–Kněževes–Hartmanice route towards Polička. These place names and the direction provide a specific reference when you are looking into the route. Check the numbering and signs before setting off.
Marked hiking trails also pass through Sulíkov. No individual hiking routes are specified here, so the trail markers are the practical guide on site. Cycling and hiking are different ways to spend your time here; this does not mean that the trails share a route.
Viewpoints and Landscape
Sulíkov lies on the northern edge of the Halasovo Kunštátsko Nature Park. In Vřesice, a district of Sulíkov, both the nature park and the Křetínka Reservoir protected zone form part of the landscape. Above Vřesice, Povětrňák Hill offers views of the Boskovice Furrow, the Drahany Highlands and the Křetínka Reservoir. A windmill once stood there.
Other viewpoints each offer a different perspective: from Brablec Hill, the view extends across the entire Křetínka Valley. Šibeník rises northwest of Sulíkov; from its summit, you can enjoy views of the surrounding area. In suitable climatic conditions, numerous mushrooms and blueberries grow in the surrounding forests. Their actual presence may vary.
History in Vřesice and the Surrounding Area
Vřesice adds a craft-making past to Sulíkov’s architectural history. It was once home to extensive pottery production, and the pottery trade reached its peak in the 1930s and 1940s. This historical focus differs from the sacred buildings and viewpoints, offering another way to explore the village.
Nearby Kunštát Castle displays the domestic culture of its last aristocratic owners in its interiors, as well as the oldest parts of the original castle. If you are planning a visit, check current visitor information. Also nearby, in Rudka, the Cave of the Blaník Knights features sculptures by artist Stanislav Rolínek and is set in parkland. Alongside Sulíkov’s chapel, church and landscape, there are also cultural attractions to choose from in the surrounding area.
