Svinošice brings together visible traces of its local history and hiking destinations in the surrounding area. If you are looking for a hotel in Svinošice, the local sights and the trails described here can help you plan your days. The destinations vary considerably: alongside a chapel and memorials, there are marked routes to the Babí lom lookout tower and the Nový hrad ruins, as well as rest areas and educational trails.

Where to Stay and How to Get Your Bearings

Svinošice has one hotel offering accommodation. As a road reference point, road II/379 runs east–west through Svinošice from Blansko to Brno. This places the town along the route between these two cities.

The townscape includes several distinct historic sites. The Chapel of the Holy Family was built in the late 19th century; right beside it, a cast-iron cross on a stone pedestal has stood since 1871. In the upper part of town, on the road to Šebrov, there is also a wayside shrine that is a state-protected cultural monument. Each of these three places tells a different part of the local history of architecture and remembrance.

The Chapel, Memorials, and History

The war memorial of 1921 stands on the village square, opposite the chapel. It bears the names of all the First World War victims from Svinošice. A marble plaque bearing the names of three Second World War victims was later added to the pedestal. Since 1945, a memorial plaque on the former school building, now used as a cultural center, has commemorated headmaster Bohumil Vařílek.

Medieval history is also part of the townscape, even though the former fortress is known only through historical records: it is documented from 1373 to 1437 and fell into ruin sometime in the second half of the 15th century. Together with the later memorial sites, this traces a period from the medieval structure to the memorials of the 20th century. Visitors interested in history will find several specific themes, from the wayside shrine and chapel to the names on the memorial plaques.

Hiking Destinations and Rest Areas

A yellow-marked hiking trail to the Babí lom lookout tower starts in Svinošice. The 15-meter-high tower is 4.3 kilometers away via this trail and is freely accessible. Check access conditions and trail markings before setting out. Another described route leads to the Nový hrad ruins: follow the yellow trail to the U Jelínka trail junction, then continue on the red trail. The route is 10.6 kilometers long. These details refer to different destinations and routes; they can help you choose a hike based on the stated distance. Markings and trail conditions may change.

The newly reconstructed Luhy site is in the eastern part of town and has a rest area and a fire pit. From the rest area, you can reach the Šebrovka waterfall. Another place to take a break is Lelkovadlo, a wooden sculpture with a rest area, benches, and a covered shelter. The Lesy města Brna educational trail starts about 500 meters from the sculpture. It explains the journey of a tree from seed to wood products. The nearby Babí lom forest educational trail is just under two kilometers long and has a total of ten information boards.

South of Svinošice are the protected Spálená skála area and the Babí lom nature reserve. The landscape there is shaped by a rocky ridge of siliceous conglomerate with natural woodland. The lookout tower, two educational trails, and rest areas each offer something different: views, learning, or a place to take a break along the way. If you plan to visit several destinations, take their respective routes and the information on current trail conditions into account.

Local Traditions

Traditions mentioned in Svinošice include the August folk-costume festivities (krojované hody) and a carnival procession through the town. There is also a tasting competition for the best slivovitz, called “Svinošická švestka.” If you want to plan your stay around one of these events, check the specific dates in advance.
