When planning your trip, you can weigh whether you are more interested in local history, the landscape, or a specific tour.
History at Hradisko and in Skřípov
The wooded Hradisko hill is associated with the former medieval fortress of Velké Hostěrádky. An oral tradition is linked to the site of the castle, now called Hradisko: two princesses from the House of Dirtenstein are said to have had a church built there. The church in Velké Hostěrádky is dedicated to Saint Roch, Saint Sebastian, and Saint Rosalia. The building of the post inn at No. 74 is listed as an immovable cultural monument in the village.
North of Velké Hostěrádky, at the end of the Skřípov valley, lies an archaeological site dating from the Middle Bronze Age. It represents a much earlier period than the medieval fortress associated with Hradisko. The oral tradition about the church stands alongside it as a distinct form of local history.
Landscape and protected species
The Skřípov area includes a valley with a pond, terraces, and prominent slopes above the settlement. Its landscape therefore encompasses both the valley and higher slopes. These varied features offer more than one way to explore the landscape as part of your trip planning.
The Svatá a Prostřední vrch Natura 2000 site extends into the northern part of the cadastral area of Velké Hostěrádky. It is home to protected plant and animal species, including the Hungarian jewel beetle and certain protected large mammals. Alongside the landscape features of Skřípov, this site offers another perspective on the region’s natural environment, with a focus on protected species and their habitats.
Educational trail and regional routes
The Pestrá krajina educational trail in Velké Hostěrádky is seven kilometres long, has six information boards, and is lined with fruit trees. Its length, information boards, and trees provide a clear framework for planning a tour. A 2025 report describes the trail as being marked in map applications and mentions schools, families, and tourists who use it for outings.
Cyclists can also take a regional connection into account: an important interregional cycle route corridor runs through the cadastral area. This information applies to the cadastral area and complements the educational trail as a separate consideration when planning a trip.
