Zbraslavec: Chapel, pottery history and cycling routes
Accommodation in Zbraslavec
Zbraslavec brings together architectural and craft heritage with named cycling and hiking routes. If you are looking for hotels in Zbraslavec, the chapel, pottery and routes through the surrounding area can offer different focal points for planning your trip.
The chapel’s cultural history
The Neo-Gothic Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel dates from 1901. Its older western part consists of an original prismatic chapel with a square floor plan; a newer, slightly wider rectangular nave is attached to it. The building thus combines two forms: the square floor plan of the older chapel section and the newer rectangular nave. The stylistic designation places the building in its design context, while the description of its components explains its structure.
A stone cross stands in front of the south wall, with an image of Christ painted on sheet metal; the year 1857 is carved into the cross. The years 1901 and 1857 refer to different details: 1901 to the chapel, 1857 to the cross. This distinction separates the chapel’s construction date from the inscription on the cross, revealing two different historical reference points in Zbraslavec.
Crafts and other local points of interest
Kaolin deposits on HĹŻra Hill in the territory of Zbraslavec contributed to the development of local pottery. This craft tradition adds another cultural-historical perspective to the architectural history.
In the southern part of Zbraslavec, on the left bank of the ĂšmoĹ™Ă, is the sawmill and the former KĹ™epelĹŻv mlĂ˝n mill complex. The site is not accessible. The complex is therefore a historical point of local interest, not a place to visit.
Cycling and hiking routes
Cycling route 5141 passes through Zbraslavec and connects Kunštát, Drnovice, Lysice, Žerůtky, Býkovice and Černá Hora. Its number and the named places provide concrete reference points for route planning. Check the signs and local conditions before setting out; both may change.
A green hiking trail leads from Zbraslavec through the Úmořà valley towards Hluboké u Kunštátu. While the cycling route names several connected places, the valley and direction provide guidance for the hiking trail. Check the markings and local conditions before your hike.
The NS Drnovicko educational trail can also be placed in its historical context: as of 2017, it ran from Drnovice through Zbraslavec and Kunice to Lhota u Lysic. At the time, it had at least 14 stops and focused on local sights. If you are planning to visit the trail today, check its current route in advance.
