There are several themed reasons to visit Sopot: culinary events, film and architectural heritage. The Sajam zdrave hrane Milena Tatar brings together organic produce, information and tastings, while the Gulasijada features a goulash competition. SOFEST brings together films and other forms of culture, while the Sopot Han offers a distinct architectural focus. You can plan your trip around whether you would like to focus on cuisine, film or architecture.

Culinary events in Sopot

The “Sajam zdrave hrane Milena Tatar” takes place in the park in front of Prince Miloš’s Residence in the center of Sopot. It brings together numerous exhibitors, including organic food producers from Sopot and the surrounding area. Visitors can learn about the products, organic farming methods and the producers’ experiences. They can also sample dishes prepared by the exhibitors. A visit therefore offers two perspectives: you can learn about organic food production while also discovering the local culinary scene.

Another culinary event is the Gulasijada in Sopot. It traditionally takes place during the July festivities. The competition is about preparing the tastiest goulash, with a four-member jury judging the cooking. At the same time, visitors can enjoy good food and socializing in a park. Unlike the Sajam zdrave hrane Milena Tatar, which focuses on producers and organic food, the Gulasijada combines a cooking competition with a shared meal. If you are traveling specifically for an event, it is worth checking the exact dates.

Film and other cultural programs

The Sopot Film Festival (SOFEST) is a traditional cultural event for the municipality of Sopot and the region. It presents domestic films produced in the previous year. The program also includes documentaries, panel discussions, exhibitions and a musical and theatrical program. The event therefore goes beyond film screenings: discussions, exhibitions and musical and theatrical contributions complement the program. Films are selected based on their production in the previous year, while the other program items broaden the cultural offering.

The Days of Milovan Vidaković traditionally conclude with performances by cultural and artistic associations. This provides a different focus from SOFEST’s film screenings: here, the associations’ performances feature in the closing program.

Architecture and religious significance

The Sopot Han is located in the center of Sopot. It is a monumental example of vernacular architecture, strongly influenced by the finest traditions of Macedonian folk architecture. It also has protected cultural heritage status and is a cultural monument of great importance. If you would like to explore Sopot through its architecture rather than an event program, the Han offers a distinct point of interest.

The church in Ropočevo, now part of Sopot, is dedicated to the Feast of the Ascension of Christ. Alongside architecture and monument status, this brings a religious dimension to the foreground.
