Remedios de Escalada
Accommodation in Remedios de Escalada
The varied themes of Remedios de Escalada include railway heritage, hands-on science, remembrance, and local cultural institutions. As you plan your trip, you can weigh these themes according to your own interests: Ferroclub Argentino represents historic workshops and a narrow-gauge train ride, while Abremate offers interactive modules from several natural sciences. The Paseo de la Memoria adds a place of remembrance; the Biblioteca Popular Alberdi and the Museo Universitario de Diseño (MUD) round out the cultural points of interest.
Railway Heritage at Ferroclub Argentino
At the historic workshops in Remedios de Escalada, Ferroclub Argentino preserves the large main hall, along with several locomotives and railway cars on display. The workshop hall itself is therefore part of the town’s railway heritage, as well as the vehicles. A particularly rare technical artifact is the Coche Dinamométrico 0–153: this is the only example in Argentina, and only two survive worldwide. Ferroclub’s self-guided family outing also includes a 300-meter ride on the Ferrocarril Económico Sud railway. It has a track gauge of 26 centimeters and stops at two stations. The railway heritage takes two different forms: the preserved hall and vehicles on one hand, and a short ride on a narrow-gauge railway on the other.
Interactive Natural Sciences at Abremate
The Centro Interactivo de Ciencia y TecnologĂa Abremate takes a different approach. It invites students, teachers, and the general public to take part in hands-on activities. Visitors can play with modules from physics, chemistry, and biology. The exhibition space contains 63 playful interactive modules. This clearly distinguishes Abremate from Ferroclub: rather than a historic railway collection and ride, the focus is on hands-on activities with modules from three natural sciences.
Remembrance at Parque Municipal Eva PerĂłn
The Paseo de la Memoria is located in Parque Municipal Eva Perón in Remedios de Escalada. It was inaugurated on March 28, 2012, to remember and honor the people who were detained and disappeared in Lanús during state terrorism. Parque Municipal Eva Perón is described as the district’s most important green lung.
Cultural Institutions and Their History
Biblioteca Popular Alberdi is a cultural landmark of Remedios de Escalada; it was founded on October 14, 1918. Its founding date and the inauguration of the Paseo in 2012 mark different historical points of reference: one concerns a cultural institution, the other a place of remembrance. The Museo Universitario de Diseño (MUD) was conceived as a space for exhibitions, teaching, research, and training. When it opened, it was accessible to the academic community and the general public. Check the current access policy before visiting.
