Puerto Rico on the Paraná: Nature and Culture
Accommodation in Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico brings together the Río Paraná, urban green spaces and cultural venues. When planning a stay, you can look at the town from several distinct perspectives: Parque Natural Municipal Monte Seguín represents an expansive riverside landscape, while Parque Natural Municipal Juan Carlos Chebez is a small park in the built-up town center. The Costanera Juan Pablo II combines the riverfront with a striking reminder of the town’s history. There is also a theater and an arts and crafts fair. This can help you decide whether nature, cultural history or events matter most to your travel plans.
Green spaces and the Paraná riverbank
Parque Natural Municipal Monte Seguín covers 300 hectares, lies on the banks of the Río Paraná and is part of the provincial protected-area system of Misiones. Parque Natural Municipal Juan Carlos Chebez is much smaller: the urban park covers one hectare and is located in the built-up town center; it too is part of the provincial protected-area system.
The comparison highlights two distinct green spaces: Monte Seguín is a large park by the river, while Chebez is a smaller green space in the built-up town center. In an announcement published on February 5, 2026, the municipality of Puerto Rico invited residents and visitors to join a specific guided tour of Monte Seguín. Places on the tour were limited and had to be reserved in advance.
The Costanera Juan Pablo II lies on the Río Paraná and offers a riverside setting. There you’ll find the hollow trunk of a stately Cañafístola tree mounted on the chassis of an old two-axle cart. The tree species was typical of the former Paranaense rainforest; the display evokes the town’s pioneering era. A historical report on visitor use also describes the park-like landscaping of the five-hectare site of Club de Pesca Puerto Rico on the slopes along the Río Paraná, with native trees and thousands of orchids; these landscaping details may have changed.
Culture on stage and in crafts
Cine Teatro San Martín hosts artistic, cultural and social events. The theater has more than 500 seats and dressing rooms for theater productions. It is a distinct cultural hub in the town, with facilities that can accommodate larger theater productions.
The Expo Feria Provincial de Arte y Artesanías was established in 1984 and resumed in 2022. The 2026 edition included a food court.
If you want to plan your stay around a specific cultural event, check the dates for Cine Teatro San Martín and the relevant edition of the Expo Feria before booking your hotel. This will help you choose your travel dates based on whether a suitable events program is important to you or whether the river landscape and variety of green spaces are the deciding factors.
