Discover Fuendetodos
Accommodation in Fuendetodos
When choosing Fuendetodos as a destination, you can explore a range of interests: Goya-related prints and places of remembrance, an educational trail featuring cultural history, a nature route and public art. To plan your visit, it helps to distinguish the routes by theme and format. This makes it easier to compare a circular route with one whose stated distance covers only the outward journey.
Goya and printmaking
At the Taller de Grabado Calcográfico, you can learn the traditional art of intaglio printing. This includes the drypoint technique used by Goya himself. So the focus is not only on the artist, but also on a specific printmaking process. If you would like to take part, check the participation requirements in advance; they may change.
The Museo del Grabado is just a few metres from the Casa Natal de Goya. Another connection to Goya can be found in the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción: it still contains the baptismal font where Francisco de Goya was baptised. His birthplace and the font point to different stages of his life. Together, they provide tangible places and objects through which to explore Goya, rather than focusing solely on his art.
Routes through history
The “Los pasos de Goya” educational trail is a three-kilometre circular route through Fuendetodos and its surroundings. Various cultural and historical sights lie along the way. The first stop is the medieval Fuente Vieja, which gave Fuendetodos its name. The Nevera del Calvario-Balay, an ice store, is also on the trail. There, you can see a recreation of the historic ice-cutting process. The stops bring together different themes: a medieval spring and the former use of an ice store.
A different distance applies to the Ruta de la Hoz Mayor: it is described as an easy route suitable for the whole family and measures seven kilometres one way. The figures are therefore not directly comparable: “Los pasos de Goya” is a three-kilometre circular route, while the seven kilometres for the Hoz Mayor refer to the outward journey. Check the trail conditions locally before planning your visit around them.
FuendeVerde also offers guided routes through Fuendetodos. They are adapted to participants’ ability levels and can be covered on foot, by bicycle or by car. As the availability of these guided activities may vary, ask in advance what is currently on offer.
Nature and traces
Las Hoces on the Ruta de la Hoz Mayor form an unusual geological landscape with a distinctly different local microclimate. Ferns and Pyrenean plants grow there. The route therefore combines landscape features with vegetation associated with this particular microclimate. You can also spot signs and tracks left by wild boar, roe deer and badgers along the route. By watching out for such clues, you can experience the wildlife through its traces as well as enjoy the landscape.
Public art and historical evidence
Every year, Fuendetodos Goya Street Art invites urban artists to create works on the town’s streets, façades and doors. The works on display may change from year to year. This art initiative is therefore different in character from the permanent historic stops on the educational trail: its works are created in public spaces, and the collection is not fixed.
There are also historical sites in the nearby area: you can visit three groups of trenches. Check local access conditions before your visit. This means your trip can bring together a range of interests, from printmaking and connections to Goya to cultural history, nature watching and outdoor sites.
