Several themes come together for a trip to Osera De Ebro: Mudéjar architecture and protected monuments, archaeological history, the birdlife of the Ebro reserve, and routes for walking or mountain biking. The information ranges from a 16th-century church to a 17-kilometre hike rated difficult. This can help you decide whether architecture, nature or outdoor activity will shape your stay.

Mudéjar Church and Castle Park

The Iglesia de Santa Engracia was built around 1575 in the 16th century as a single-nave Mudéjar church without galleries. It is designated a Bien Catalogado del Patrimonio Cultural Aragonés. The tower stands out for its two-colour ceramic elements in white and green: a distinctive detail alongside the church’s classification as a Mudéjar building.

The remains of the Castillo de los Cornel are located at Plaza Mayor. The consolidated site now serves as a park and offers views of the nearby Río Ebro. The Castillo is among the castles in Aragón designated as Bienes de Interés Cultural. Historic remains, its present-day use as a park and views of the river thus come together in one place.

La Corona: Archaeological History

The archaeological site of La Corona lies in the municipalities of Osera De Ebro and Fuentes de Ebro in the province of Zaragoza. It is designated a Bien de Interés Cultural in the category of Conjunto de Interés Cultural, as well as an archaeological site. La Corona is considered a settlement from the Republican period. A severe fire destroyed the settlement, and it was abandoned in the second half of the 1st century BC. La Corona therefore offers a different historical point of interest from the church and castle: here, the story of a settlement takes centre stage.

Nature Reserve and Birdlife

Part of the municipal area lies within the Reserva Natural Dirigida de los Sotos y Galachos del Ebro. The reserve’s aquatic ecosystem provides shelter and food for a wide variety of waterbirds. In winter, Northern Shovelers, Gadwalls, Eurasian Wigeons and Eurasian Teals take refuge in quieter stretches of the river and in the galachos. Purple Herons are among the species that breed in the Reserva. White Storks are present in Osera year-round, including at the church and on electricity pylons.

Birdwatchers should bear the different time frames in mind: the ducks mentioned use quieter areas in winter, Purple Herons breed in the reserve, and White Storks are present in Osera year-round. These seasonal details differ; they do not all describe the same observation or location.

Hiking and Mountain Biking

The Ruta Senderista Barrancos y Trincheras de Osera starts at Plaza España in Osera De Ebro. It is 17 kilometres long, with a maximum positive elevation gain of 200 metres. The route description, dated 2022, rates it as technically difficult. Along the way, the route passes numerous trenches and refuge caves from the Spanish Civil War. The distance, elevation gain and technical rating each answer a different question about the hike; also check local terrain conditions before setting out.

The 2024 description rates the BTT route Osera «Barranco San Julián» as moderate and says it leads to the Ebro landing stage at Osera. The section through the ravine is listed as approximately five kilometres. This figure refers to the ravine section. Together with the stated destination, it gives a concrete sense of the route features described for this mountain-bike ride.

Festivals and Getting There

Osera De Ebro celebrates a patron saint festival in honour of Santa Engracia in April and another in honour of San MartĂn in November. The exact festival dates vary from year to year. If you would like to time your trip to coincide with one of the festivals, check the dates for the year you plan to visit.

The municipal transport information, updated on 13 November 2025, lists bus routes 214 and 214B to Zaragoza; Calle Coso 118 is given as both the starting point and terminus. Check the timetable before travelling. This lets you plan your journey using the listed connection without assuming that festival dates or bus times are fixed.
