Urturi: Izki Natural Park, Golf and Mountain Biking
Accommodation in Urturi
Urturi can be explored through several highlights: the landscape around Izki Natural Park, mountain biking, golf and a historic landmark.
Landscape and character
Urturi lies in a gentle ravine at the foot of Izki Natural Park, beside Cerro La Torre and Alto de los Cerros. For travellers who first consider the surroundings when choosing a destination, these features provide a concrete starting point: they bring together a named landscape, the natural park and two elevations. This connection with nature is a distinct highlight alongside Urturi’s sporting and cultural attractions.
Church and festival date
The parish church of Santísima Trinidad dates from the late 16th century. If you would like to consider Urturi’s history as well as its landscape and sports, this provides a specific historical reference point. Urturi’s festival in honour of the Virgen de la Magdalena is listed as taking place on 22 July. If you would like to plan your trip around this date, check in advance whether the festival is taking place in your chosen year.
Mountain biking at Centro BTT Izki
Centro BTT Izki has 15 mountain bike routes with a total length of 506 kilometres. The two figures complement each other: the number of routes describes the range of options, while the total length indicates the size of the network. On average, this works out to just under 34 kilometres per route. This average helps put the network as a whole into perspective, but does not tell you the length of any individual ride. For planning your time, the specific route you choose is therefore what matters.
The Centro BTT Izki visitor centre is located at Campo de Golf de Urturi and offers bicycle hire; booking by phone in advance is recommended. If you need to hire a bike, you can take this into account when planning. This helps you address two separate questions: which mountain bike route to choose and whether you would like to hire a bike.
Golf in Urturi
The Campo de Urturi, part of the Izki Golf complex, is an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by Severiano Ballesteros. It was the first fully public 18-hole golf course to be built in Spain. When comparing your travel interests, the difference from Centro BTT is clear: here, the focus is on a golf course with set course details, while there it is on a mountain bike network with 15 routes and a visitor centre that offers bicycle hire.
Approach via the southern entrance
The southern entrance to Izki Natural Park is via the A-2124 (Vitoria–Logroño). At Ventas de Armentia, take the A-126 towards Bernedo; from there, continue towards Urturi. This route information describes the approach from the south. Check road conditions and access regulations before setting out.
