Buenasbodas: Hiking, Mills and Festival Traditions
Accommodation in Buenasbodas
Buenasbodas can be considered for a trip based on specific themes: hiking, architectural history and local festival traditions. If you are looking for a hotel here, these highlights can help you decide on the right purpose and timing for your trip.
Hiking and Landscape
The official circular route R-04 passes through Buenasbodas. It is part of the trail network of the Comarca Talavera-Sierra de San Vicente-La Jara. This regional network includes 21 routes and more than 550 kilometres of signposted trails; the totals may change if routes are added or removed. They refer to the comarca’s trail network, not to the length of R-04. Check local trail conditions before setting out.
Other routes are also connected with Buenasbodas: the path from Gargantilla to Buenasbodas forms part of the Camino de Guadalupe de los Montes de Toledo. The PR-TO 57 starts on the path from Gargantilla to Buenasbodas. The Sendero Molinos del Río Frío features ten mills from a former complex of 23 mills in total. The trail thus represents both individual visible mills and the larger scale of the former complex.
A chestnut ravine in Buenasbodas is considered a secluded natural spot. This landscape feature adds another local highlight to the routes.
Church of San Blas and Festival Traditions
The Church of San Blas is a 19th-century building. Its whitewashed exterior is made of quartzite and slate; the building also has a wooden hipped roof, a choir and a granite baptismal font. The details thus cover the building’s exterior as well as its roof, choir and baptismal font. The church is located in Buenasbodas at C. Iglesia 2.
The San Blas patron saint festival includes a solemn Mass and a procession. A report from February 2023 also mentions the Leñeros gathering, followed by the lighting of a bonfire, as well as the second popular San Blas footrace.
The Romería de la Garganta is one of the local celebrations in honour of the Virgen del Carmen. It takes place on the Saturday closest to 25 July. Participants accompany the Virgen del Carmen from the Church of San Blas to the hermitage at Cuesta de los Castaños; celebrations take place beside the hermitage. A report dated 20 July 2025 lists traditional lemonade and appetiser snacks at the sports centre for participants as part of the romería.
If you are planning your trip around the romería, take the date rule into account and check the specific event date in advance. For hikes, it is advisable to check local trail conditions before setting out.
