Corral de Almaguer combines distinctive buildings with a walking trail through vineyards and grain fields, as well as recurring festive traditions. This gives you several themes to focus on when planning your trip: the town’s architecture, the Sendero Virgen de la Muela and events held at particular times of year. Which ones you would like to explore may also shape your choice of travel dates.

Architecture and Local History

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción has three naves; its transept features a late Gothic ribbed vault. The Casa de los Collados, designated a Bien de Interés Cultural, offers a different architectural impression. It is arranged around a courtyard with three arcades. Several rooms have artesonado wooden ceilings with polychrome paintings. The courtyard, arcades and painted ceilings form a different architectural layout from the church’s three-nave interior.

The Plaza Mayor and the Ayuntamiento also have specific architectural features: the square is neoclassical in design, and the Ayuntamiento on the Plaza Mayor was designed by Ventura Rodríguez. The Convento de San José is also part of Corral de Almaguer’s historical and religious heritage. Together, these buildings invite you to look beyond a single building type and consider religious and public architecture as well.

Walking Trail and Landscape

The Sendero Virgen de la Muela is an officially approved PR-TO 02 walking trail. It starts in the town centre and passes through a landscape of vineyards and grain fields. Along the way, the trail passes the Ermita de la Muela, the ruins of a medieval mill and the Ermita de San Isidro; the Río Riánsares runs alongside the route. The trail description thus connects an agricultural landscape with several historical and religious points of interest. Check access conditions before setting out; access to individual sites may vary.

Another archaeological destination is Cerro del Gollino. The site is open to visitors; access is via a rural road, 3 km from Corral de Almaguer. If you plan to visit, check access conditions beforehand. The distance is a route distance and does not indicate walking time or trail conditions.

Singing Traditions and Festivals

Los Mayos is a nighttime singing tradition in Corral de Almaguer. It takes place from 30 April into 1 May. The singing procession starts at the church and ends at the Ermita de la Virgen de la Muela. Its timing and route make the tradition a clearly defined reason to travel around the turn of the month. If you would like to visit specifically for Los Mayos, plan your trip around these dates.

The annual San Antón celebrations include a traditional bonfire and a musical event featuring local DJs. The programme for the celebration in January 2026 also included a Mass in honour of San Antonio Abad and San Sebastián at the Ermita de San Antón, an animal blessing and a procession with the images of San Antón and San Sebastián. These details refer to the January 2026 celebration and do not automatically describe the programme in other years.

A patron saint festival on the third weekend of May is said to include a procession in honour of the patron saint, a fireworks display and a popular festival. The August celebrations also include a procession in honour of the saint, a popular festival and a fireworks display. The Fiesta de la Vendimia offers another seasonal occasion: the 2025 edition included grape treading and a wine tasting. Check the dates and programme of each recurring festival before travelling.
