Golmés combines architectural and local history with a distinctive landscape feature and a long gravel loop. Local events also have their own focus, from the Festa de les Cassoles to the Trobada de Vehicles Clàssics. If you are looking for a hotel for your trip to Golmés, these themes can help you choose the focus of your stay.

Sant Salvador and its architectural history

The Església Parroquial de Sant Salvador is a heritage building in Golmés and is included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia. The present-day building in the old town was constructed in the 18th century in the neoclassical style. It has three naves. In a three-nave building, the church interior is divided into a central nave and two side aisles; at Sant Salvador, the central nave and the corresponding section of the transept are higher and wider. A dome is located at the center, taking the exterior form of a drum renovated with tiles. Alongside its architectural style, the building’s layout and central dome stand out as distinctive features.

The cross and the Carta de població

The Creu de terme in Golmés links its form to a specific local history. The stone cross is Latin in design, with angular arms set at right angles. The present-day Creu de terme was donated in 1969 by the association “Fills i amics de Golmés”. It replaced a cross that had been destroyed in 1936; the current version was restored in 1994. Another chapter in local history is commemorated by the monument marking the 800th anniversary of the granting of the Carta de població. The charter granted the inhabitants of Golmés rights and duties. The monument also commemorates the provision that allowed the inhabitants to freely manage the town and its territory. Both the obligations of the time and the scope for action they were granted are therefore at the heart of the monument.

Salt del Duran and Font del Salt del Duran

At the edge of the municipality lies the Salt del Duran, a 4.5-metre-high waterfall on the third Sèquia of the Canal d’Urgell. Beside it is the Font del Salt del Duran spring. It lies in a shady hollow surrounded by trees. The waterfall, canal and wooded hollow offer a different perspective from the buildings and monuments: here, water and the landscape shape the area’s character. If you are planning your trip around cultural themes, you can also make this natural landmark a focus in its own right.

Festivals, vehicles and a gravel route

The Festa de les Cassoles includes the preparation of cassoles on the grounds of Parc del Centenari. If you would like to combine your trip with this event, check the specific event dates in advance. Participation in the Trobada de Vehicles Clàssics in Golmés is open to vehicles that are more than 25 years old and in good condition. The event has a clear focus: classic vehicles, for which both age and condition matter.

For cycling travellers, the Gravel centro: Pla d’Urgell is another option. The 103-kilometre route is a loop, starting and finishing at Estany d’Ivars i Vila-sana. In its final section, the route leaves the canal and connects Vilanova de Bellpuig and Golmés. The 103 kilometres refer to the entire loop, not just this final section. The distance and route therefore answer different planning questions: the total distance indicates the length of the loop, while the final section shows how it connects with Golmés.
