Discover Les Borges Blanques
Accommodation in Les Borges Blanques
Les Borges Blanques offers several distinct themes to explore during a stay: the legacy of Francesc Macià , collections on the history of education and archaeology, the town’s olive oil tradition, and Paseo del Terrall, its central green space. These are complemented by a 2.9 km route suitable for cycling, gravel riding and hiking. This makes it possible to explore culture, local history and outdoor activities as different focuses of a trip.
Culture and different periods
Francesc MaciĂ is the focus of Espai MaciĂ . The interpretation centre preserves, presents and disseminates documentary, graphic, audiovisual and personal heritage connected with him. Its focus on a specific individual distinguishes the centre from the museums covering school life and archaeological materials. Its theme is therefore Francesc MaciĂ and the heritage associated with him.
The Museo de Casa Pauet presents school life in the 1950s and 1960s through games, schoolbooks, cinema, comics and toys. The examples combine school and leisure themes within a clearly defined period. The Museo de ArqueologĂa covers a much longer span: it displays materials from various archaeological sites in the comarca, from the Neolithic to the early Roman Imperial period. In this way, a portrayal of school life sits alongside archaeological materials from a long historical period.
Olive oil tradition and historic sites
The olive oil tradition of Les Borges Blanques continues today under the Nortoliva brand. Cal Gineret is a historic olive mill dating from the late 19th century. During the Spanish Civil War, Cal Gineret served as one of the town’s air-raid shelters. The name is therefore associated both with the former olive mill and with its use during the war.
Another trace of the history of olive oil can be found in Paseo del Terrall: an old olive press from the 17th century stands there. The press and the former mill represent different historical connections; meanwhile, the olive oil tradition continues today under the Nortoliva brand. This makes it possible to distinguish the historic sites from the continuing tradition in terms of their timelines.
Green space and route
Paseo del Terrall is a central green space with two ponds, waterbirds and a garden featuring a wide variety of plants and trees. Alongside the museum and history themes, the focus here is on the space itself, with its water features and garden vegetation.
The 2.9 km route “Les Borges Blanques – 9 Salts del canal d’Urgell” is suitable for cycling, gravel riding and hiking. Its length gives you a concrete point of reference for planning, while the activities listed suggest different ways to enjoy it. As trail conditions and signage can change, check them before setting off.
