Ossó de Sió combines historic buildings with a route through the landscape. The Gothic Creu de Terme stands in Plaça Major; the Església de la Mare de Déu del Remei has been documented since 1391. The La Ribera del Sió – PR C57 route runs very gently through the Plans del Sió and along part of the riverbank. At Molí del Torres, traces of milling add another dimension. This lets you choose between sacred architecture, local history, mill remains and landscape as different areas of interest.

Crosses, Church and Local History

The Gothic Creu de Terme is located in Plaça Major. An inscription engraved on the front of its base dates the Creu de terme d’Ossó to 1713. Its shaft is octagonal; the knop is also octagonal and decorated with eight saint figures in niches. The Església de la Mare de Déu del Remei adds a different historical dimension: it has been documented since 1391, when it was attended by a canon from Guissona. Its bell gable has two openings. Comparing the dates helps distinguish them: 1713 belongs to the inscription on the cross, while 1391 refers to the church’s documentation.

The castle offers another perspective on local history. Ossó de Sió grew around a castle built on a hill. This is not only a story of individual architectural features, but also of the town’s development in relation to the castle.

Mills and Landscape

At Molí del Torres, you can distinguish various traces of milling. The old grain mill preserves a barrel vault hidden among the vegetation. The water inlet and the sluice gates used to fill the mill pond have also survived. An oil mill was built at Molí del Torres in 1773 and is now in ruins. Thus, preserved structural features stand alongside a ruined building, while grain processing, water management and oil production emerge as different aspects of milling.

The La Ribera del Sió – PR C57 route runs very gently through the Plans del Sió and along part of the riverbank. It is a clearly identified walking option alongside the individual historic buildings and mill remains. If you are weighing up different priorities for your stay, you can choose between a landscape route and several specific reminders of local history.

Heritage in Castellnou d’Ossó

Castellnou d’Ossó is also part of the historic surroundings. The Roman tower, also known as Castell Lliuró, stands there. It served as a defensive and observation point for monitoring the ancient routes in the Sió Valley. The Església de Sant Pere stands in isolation on the edge of the village; it is a late Romanesque church dating from the 13th century and has been documented since 1279. The tower and church offer different historical perspectives: monitoring the routes is central to the tower, while Sant Pere is considered as an individual church building.
