If you are looking for a hotel in Prulláns, you can plan your trip around historic buildings and a variety of trails. Sant Esteve de Prullans, the dolmens near Orèn and Cova d’Anes each reflect different historical connections. Viewpoints and routes offer further points of interest. For planning purposes, it is also helpful to distinguish between a one-hour walk to the cave entrance and a long-distance hiking stage lasting several hours.

Churches, Manor Houses and Archaeological Traces

Sant Esteve de Prullans is a rectangular, single-nave church dating from the 12th century. Its architectural features include a pointed barrel vault and a slightly offset apse. Inside, a baptistery with a baptismal font occupies the site of the former entrance. Paintings on the theme of creation by artist Aurora Altisent adorn the church interior.

The Casa dels Barons de Prullans, a large fortified manor house, stands right next to the church. Masia d’Orèn also has distinctive architectural features: it has Visigothic arches inside, as well as defensive towers. The remains of two dolmens, associated with the megalithic culture of the second millennium BC, are also found near Orèn. The better-preserved dolmen is a collective tomb with a simple chamber.

Another historical landmark is Mare de Déu del Roser d’Ardòvol. It dates back to an 11th-century Romanesque church or chapel and was rebuilt in the 19th century. Its most recent restoration was inaugurated in 1998. Its building history therefore spans several clearly distinct periods.

Walk to Cova d’Anes

The entrance to Cova d’Anes can be reached on foot from Prullans in one hour via the Camí del Serrat de Calm Bolvir. The cave consists of two galleries, with a total length of about 355 metres. The one-hour estimate refers to the walk to the entrance, while the 355 metres describe the cave’s passage.

Cova d’Anes is also significant for understanding early settlement: Bronze Age finds indicate that settlement in this area continued after the Neolithic settlement evidenced by the Dolmen d’Orèn. The dolmens near Orèn and the cave thus represent related, but chronologically distinct, archaeological connections. As trail conditions can change with the seasons, it is advisable to check the current situation before setting out.

Routes with Different Time Requirements

The Volta per Prullans starts on Carrer del Puig de Prullans, in front of the Local Social, and explores the area around Prullans. The route is suitable for everyone. Those planning a longer-distance hiking stage will find a very different scale on the cross-border Camí dels Bons Homes: this long-distance hiking trail follows the GR 107 and routes used by Cathars during the 13th and 14th centuries.

The stage from Bellver de Cerdanya to Viliella passes through Prullans and Ardòvol. It is 12.5 kilometres long, takes 3 hours 45 minutes, and has an elevation change of +650 metres and -100 metres. Compared with the one-hour walk to the cave, this is a considerably longer time commitment, with specific distance and elevation figures. As route details may be revised, check the latest stage information before setting out.

Mountain biking is also part of the region’s route selection: the Centre BTT Cerdanya lists Prullans as one of its eight starting points for mountain bike routes of varying difficulty. The Itinerari conscient 9 on the return to Prullans offers a different kind of route. It follows old traditional paths, with sections on tracks and trails, stony areas, open landscapes and expansive views of the Cadí and the Cerdanya plain.

Views of the Mountains and the Segre

The Mirador de Prullans can be reached directly from the N-260 towards Puigcerdà. From there, the panoramic view extends south towards the Moixeró sector and the eastern section of the Serra del Cadí. You can also look out over the Segre at Riberola, in the protected Segre-Prullans Partial Nature Reserve with its dense riverside woodland. The same viewpoint therefore offers views of both the mountain ranges and a stretch of river in a protected landscape.
