Unha lies at the foot of Pui de Unha and southeast of, and above, the Unhòla, just before the river meets the Garona. The mountain and river thus provide clear reference points for the village’s location. Cultural and historical points of interest include the former manor house Ço de Brastet and the Museo dera Mòla de Unha. For your trip, you can also plan a route via Salardú and Gessa, or visit the Via Ferrata de Unha.

Location and History

Ço de Brastet is a former manor house built in 1580. The fortified building has Renaissance windows and a portal. The year it was built and its design offer two different ways to understand the building: the date anchors its history, while the fortifications, windows and portal identify specific architectural features. If you are especially interested in architectural history when choosing a destination, Ço de Brastet offers more than just a date to note.

The Museo dera Mòla de Unha is housed in a small building on the right bank of the Unhòla. The building is positioned across the current. The river therefore helps describe both the village’s location and the precise setting of the museum building; these two connections can be clearly distinguished.

Route and Via Ferrata

The Salardú–Unha–Gessa route follows the road uphill from Salardú to Unha, then continues through Unha on the GR211 to the higher part of Gessa. The route therefore consists of the road climb to Unha, followed by the continuation along the GR211. If you plan to take this route, check trail conditions before setting out.

The Via Ferrata de Unha offers routes at different difficulty levels. The guided beginner option starts in the village of Unha and uses the first section. The approach is very short, and the beginner section is suitable for families with children. If you are considering this option, confirm the operator and availability before planning your visit.

The intermediate route covers the first and second sections and leads to the Mirador de los Buitres. Compared with the beginner option, it differs both in length and in its stated destination.

The advanced route covers three sections. Its final section is the most exposed and the longest, measuring 350 metres. This length refers to that section.

Festivals and Getting There

Unha celebrates its main festival on 16 September in honour of Saint Sebastian. The patron saint’s festival in honour of Saint Eulalia takes place on 10 December. If one of these dates is important to your trip, check the current festival programme.

The road directions are also clear: from Salardú, the road leads to Bagergue; shortly after setting out, a turn on the left leads to Unha. You can use this turn to orient yourself on the journey, while the route along the GR211 offers a separate option for planning your trip.
