Navaluenga: Hiking Trails and Nature by the Alberche
Accommodation in Navaluenga
Navaluenga lies in the valley by the Alberche River, before it flows into the Burguillo Reservoir. For a trip shaped by scenery and activities, there are several specific themes to choose from: marked hiking trails, diverse natural surroundings and historic buildings. The area includes orchards, meadows, holm oak groves, oak forests and pine forests. This means you can get to know Navaluenga not only through its riverside location, but also through its varied landscapes and hiking opportunities.
Hiking Trails and Scenery
The officially marked PRC-AV 9 hiking trail starts in Navaluenga at the Ermita de San Isidro. The chapel is next to the Puente Románico. This marked trail offers views of the main peaks of the eastern Gredos and the Alberche Valley. Its named starting point and the two scenic highlights give you specific points of reference for planning a hike: you can identify the route by its starting point at the chapel while also taking in the mountain and valley scenery.
PRC-AV 10 focuses on a different landscape. The route leads to a section of the Barranco del Cambronal, where impressive stone pines grow and the Cambronal stream runs alongside the trail. Here, the forest and stream are equally prominent. Unlike the views of the main peaks of the eastern Gredos and the Alberche Valley on PRC-AV 9, PRC-AV 10 is defined by its vegetation and water. If you choose trails by their scenery, you can distinguish between views of mountains and valleys and a stream-and-forest setting.
Nature at the Garganta de Peñaltar
Another natural area is the Garganta de Peñaltar in the Gredos granite massif. It reaches an elevation of 1,022 metres; notable black pines and cinereous vultures are also among its natural features. The gorge thus adds a specific elevation and features of its plant and animal life to the perspective offered by the trails. If you want to experience nature not only through its views, but also through its tree species and birdlife, black pines and cinereous vultures can draw your attention to another side of the landscape.
Church and Chapel
The parish church of Nuestra Señora de los Villares dates from the 13th to 14th centuries. The Ermita de San Isidro was rebuilt around 1940 by local farmers on the remains of the former Ermita de la Purísima Concepción. The buildings therefore represent different historical stories: one dates from the medieval period, while the other was rebuilt incorporating the remains of an older chapel.
Golf Course by the Alberche
The golf course lies by the Alberche River, between natural lakes and lush Mediterranean vegetation. Its setting therefore differs from the forest and stream scenery of PRC-AV 10 and the mountain and valley views of PRC-AV 9. If you choose activities based on their scenic setting, you can take this difference into account too.
