Valverdón brings together nature watching, historical connections and recurring festivals as themes for a stay.

Trails and Landscape

The short PRC-SA 23 circular trail is 9,820 metres long and has a low difficulty level. Along the way, you can experience the landscape, flora and fauna. Birds and other animals can be observed in a landscape of cereal plains, dehesas and the riverside areas of the Tormes. The PRC-SA 23 leads to the Monumento a Colón; the Ruta Latina reaches as far as the former Valcuevo estate beyond the municipality of Valverdón. Length and difficulty level answer different planning questions: the distance indicates the route’s extent, while the rating gives an indication of its difficulty.

Dehesas are considered examples of sustainable development and are characterised by high biodiversity. The dehesa landscape is shaped by centuries-old holm oaks and has been formed through human use. As a result, both its biodiversity and its human influence are integral to its character.

The Parque de Valcuevo is designated as a recreation and nature centre in Valverdón and is located on the Salamanca–Ledesma road. This designated combination of recreation and nature adds another named place to the landscape themes. Valverdón also has a riverside path. The old watermill is in the La Aceña area near Valverdón, close to the Tormes. It is advisable to check the mill’s condition and access on site.

History and Festivals

The Iglesia de San Juan Bautista was built in the 13th century and altered several times over the years. Its construction therefore dates back to the 13th century, although its history extends beyond this period of origin. Christopher Columbus stayed at the Dominican monastery of Valcuevo in 1486; the Conferencias de Valcuevo took place in Valverdón. This brings together a dated stay at the monastery and a historical connection to Valverdón. A description from 2025 mentions some murals in Valverdón that refer to the Monumento a Colón; such works may change.

The patron saint festivals are listed for 24 and 25 June; Nuestra Señora de los Remedios is celebrated on 15 June. Both dates therefore fall in the same month, with the 15 June celebration preceding the patron saint festivals. Specific programmes may change. If a celebration is the reason for your trip, check the latest festival information in advance.

Getting There and Trip Planning

Valverdón can be reached via the C-300 towards Ledesma; check road conditions before setting off. A festival date mainly answers the question of when to travel; the trails and historical sites are more useful for deciding what to focus on during your stay.
