If you are planning a stay in Corral de Ayllón, hiking and local cultural heritage can shape your trip. The trails vary in length, scenery and stated time required; the town’s history is closely linked to livestock farming. The Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción and the Museo de La Fragua also each offer their own highlights.

Hiking Trails and Scenery

The natural surroundings include small streams and watercourses that flow down from the peaks of the neighboring Sierra de Ayllón. Several hiking trails explore the area. On Stage 8 of the Camino Natural de la Cañada Real Soriana Occidental from Riaza to Ayllón, the route enters the municipality of Corral de Ayllón at kilometer marker 134.

The “De la Guadaña al pico del Cerro” hike begins at Plaza de la Iglesia, passes through Parque Miguel Arribas and heads toward Pico del Cerro. It is 5 km long; its stated difficulty level is 5, with an estimated duration of about two hours. “Del monte a la Vega pasando por Pajares de Fresno” also starts at Plaza de la Iglesia: the 8 km route is listed as difficulty level 5 and takes around three hours. This makes it possible to compare two hikes with similar difficulty ratings but different distances and estimated times.

“Entre cárcavas, robles y encinas” focuses on ravines and oak and holm oak forests along the route. The 7.1 km hike also begins at Plaza de la Iglesia. Another route, “El robledal de Riboto, el encinar de Saldaña y el pinar del Corral,” is 10 km long and passes through oak, holm oak and pine forests in Corral de Ayllón. The routes described thus offer different scenic highlights.

Two more routes are each 9.3 km long, but differ in their stated mode of travel and duration. “Corriendo por la llanura más grande de Segovia” loops around a historic airfield; it takes about 50 minutes running or around two and a half hours on foot. “Salir a correr por el monte” follows trails with barely any inclines. For experienced runners, it is listed as taking about one hour and having a difficulty level of 3. The estimated times help put the two routes of equal length into perspective without treating their different descriptions as the same.

If you are walking Stage 8 of the Camino Natural, take particular care after crossing the SG-V-9115 road. Pedestrians and cyclists should each use the appropriate side of the road.

Church, Museum and History

The Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción was built in the 18th century on the site of a Romanesque church, of which only the portal remains. The church’s history of construction thus spans two periods. The chapel of the Virgen de la Soledad contains two Baroque altarpieces. The main altarpiece is neoclassical and includes a tabernacle and a revolving display case for the monstrance.

The Museo de La Fragua offers a glimpse into the community’s way of life in the past and the traditional work of the blacksmith. It contains nearly 200 objects donated by residents, covering blacksmithing, agriculture and livestock farming. If you are planning a visit, contact the town hall or local residents.

Livestock farming is also part of Corral de Ayllón’s history. The land near the Cañada Real Soriana Occidental was used for years to pen the residents’ livestock; the town’s origins are linked to this tradition. A sheepfold also remains in the municipality as evidence of its former livestock farming. The private Aeródromo de La Nava in Corral de Ayllón is dedicated to private aviation, particularly gliding.
