When looking for hotels in Valdeprados, you can choose your destination based on the themes that interest you during your stay. The Risca del Río Moros represents a protected geological feature; the church, tower and Puente de los Enamorados offer cultural perspectives. The listed festival dates add two clearly dated occasions to the options. This lets you consider nature, architectural history and local tradition as different reasons to stay.

Landscape and Route

The Risca del Río Moros is a canyon about 300 metres long, with vertical walls up to 40 metres high. The length and wall height describe different dimensions of the same formation and give the landscape a tangible scale. The Risca is protected and designated a Lugar de Interés Geológico (Place of Geological Interest). So, when choosing a nature theme for your trip, both its form and its protected status and geological classification are central.

The Ruta de la Risca del Río Moros is suitable for all visitors. Along the route is a small wooden viewpoint with a maximum capacity of ten people. The suitability statement refers to the route; the capacity limit applies to the viewpoint. This makes it easy to distinguish the two details when planning: one statement about the route and a specific visitor limit for the viewpoint.

Church and Art

The Iglesia de Santa Eulalia de Mérida is in the Herrerian style. Inside is a main altarpiece from 1791 in the Rococo style, showing the transition to Neoclassicism. A late Mannerist painting depicts the Virgin of the Rosary with donors. The architecture and artworks can be considered as different aspects: the style of the building, the altarpiece’s stylistic development and the painting’s religious subject. This allows you to distinguish the architecture, altar art and painting when making your cultural selections, without grouping them all under a single style.

Bridge, Tower and Legend

The Puente de los Enamorados historically connected the neighbouring towns of Valdeprados and Vegas de Matute. Its name means “Bridge of Lovers”; a local legend tells how a prince and the daughter of the Señores de Vegas met at the bridge and then plunged to their deaths. The bridge thus brings together a former connection between towns and a local tale. The Torreón de los Condes de Puñonrostro is believed to have been built in the 15th century. Compared with the altarpiece dated to 1791, this illustrates different ways of stating historical dates: an assumed construction period within a century for the tower, and a specific year for the artwork.

Festivals Throughout the Year

The summer festivities in Valdeprados take place on the penultimate weekend of August. The local festival in honour of Saint Eulalia, the patron saint of Valdeprados, is celebrated on 10 December. The dates offer different seasonal points of reference: a festival weekend in August and a December date. If you are planning your trip around one of the festivals, check the event dates in advance.
