If you are looking for a hotel in El Rasillo de Cameros, deciding what you want to focus on during your stay can help with planning: water sports on the reservoir, trails and outdoor activities, nature or local history. There are specific places and activities in the area related to each of these themes. The following places and activities show what you can focus on during your trip.

Reservoir, water sports and trails

At the González-Lacasa Reservoir, Club Náutico El Rasillo offers pedal boating, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing and light sailing. The club has designated bathing areas, its own restaurant and a cafeteria; access is free. As activities and dining options may be seasonal, check before your trip whether the options you want are available on your travel dates.

The paved Senda de El Rasillo trail leads down from the village to the reservoir and runs along the shore by Club Náutico. It thus connects the village area with a route by the water. The GR-93 “Sierras de La Rioja” offers a different perspective: the stage from Ortigosa de Cameros to Anguiano passes through El Rasillo de Cameros. When planning, you can choose between a trail that ends at the reservoir and a route that passes through the village.

Orienteering is also offered in El Rasillo. On courses with marked checkpoints, participants use a map and compass. Mushroom picking is a spring and autumn activity, but requires a permit and is not allowed every day. Check in advance which dates are currently authorized. The pump track is free to use and open to the public year-round; check its availability locally.

Nature by the reservoir and in the village

The Área recreativa de San Antolino recreation area is near the González-Lacasa Reservoir, by the access road to Club Náutico. It includes Pyrenean oak woodland and stands of Scots pine. It provides a habitat for roe deer, squirrels, great spotted woodpeckers, nuthatches and spadefoot toads. The Sierra de El Rasillo is also characterized by holm oak, oak and beech forests; its flora includes yew, juniper, Portuguese oak, holly, broom, gentian and daffodil.

Another natural attraction is the Olmo de El Rasillo, a wych elm (Ulmus glabra) over 400 years old. It is listed as a Singular Tree of La Rioja under number 61 and protected under Law 2/1995. Its specific age, tree species and protected status set this individual tree apart from the surrounding woodland and habitats.

Architecture and local life

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de las Eras is designed in the Rococo style and laid out as a Latin cross. Its nave has three bays. The tower and bell tower were built in 1727 under the direction of Juan de Allende; the main altarpiece by Manuel del Camino was completed in 1763. The Ermita de San Mamés offers a different example of church architecture: built of masonry, the chapel has a three-bay nave and a smaller chancel.

Next to the Ermita is an outdoor area with benches, places to rest and panoramic views. As facilities like these can change, it is a good idea to confirm their condition before visiting. The historic washhouse is a reminder of communal laundry as part of everyday life in El Rasillo de Cameros in the past.

The Museo Etnográfico displays preserved objects documenting the village’s traditions, everyday life, customs and ways of life. The Museo de la Miel focuses on honey production and the lives of bees, as well as their importance to the ecosystem. It also explains the craft production of honey-based products. Together, these museums offer two different perspectives on local history and regional themes.

The interactive activity “La Bruja de Achondite” is described as an urban escape room. Teams use an app, solve puzzles and challenges, and follow clues scattered throughout El Rasillo de Cameros. Check the participation requirements before your trip.
