Comstock Park: Farm Visits, Park and Events
Accommodation in Comstock Park
Comstock Park offers a range of reasons to visit: seasonal experiences at a family farm, green spaces and railroad history at Dwight Lydell Park, and events at LMCU Ballpark. GameTime Fun Park also welcomes visitors at its location in Comstock Park. For farm activities and trips to specific events in particular, timing matters.
Seasonal Visits to Krupp Farms
At Krupp Farms, farming goes hand in hand with visitor activities. The family farm in Comstock Park is run by the fourth generation; families have been picking berries and visiting a petting zoo there since 1916. The farm grows strawberries, raspberries and peaches. Depending on the season, visitors can pick their own fruit or get it at the Berry Barn. Berries and peaches are available seasonally, and this year's berry season is over. So if you want to pick your own fruit, plan your trip around the seasonal offerings.
The group program includes a wagon ride to the field, a quart of freshly picked strawberries to take home, a serving of ice cream, time at the petting zoo and free play on the playground. It is offered only on weekdays during strawberry season. For a group trip, you should therefore consider both the day of the week and the season.
Green Spaces and Paths at Dwight Lydell Park
Dwight Lydell Park in Comstock Park offers a different focus. Its features include two open picnic shelters, playgrounds, Mill Creek and extensive green spaces. There are also renovated paths, a boardwalk connection to Lamoreaux Drive, a new bridge near the library and an observation platform. The park thus combines open spaces with several clearly defined built features. Picnic shelters, playgrounds and green spaces describe one side of a visit; paths, a boardwalk, a bridge and a platform add other specific features. If you're choosing between a visit to the park and a time-specific trip to a farm or ballpark, the park offers its own distinct, nature-focused experience.
Railroad History in the Park
The historic railroad depot at Dwight Lydell Park is now home to the Grand Rapids Model Railroad Historical Society. The society's model railroad depicts the Pere-Marquette Railroad around 1945, as it ran between Grand Rapids and Bay View and along the Baldwin–Ludington and Plymouth–Chicago routes. This gives the railroad theme a clear time and place: it centers on a named railroad and specifically identified routes. This sets it apart from the park's green spaces and playgrounds, complementing them with a historical depiction of a rail network.
Events at LMCU Ballpark
LMCU Ballpark hosts car shows and amateur sporting events. It is also the venue for the Michigan Winter Beer Festival. A Christmas lights show is held there as well and is described as the largest in West Michigan. So, alongside shows and sports, a beer festival and a Christmas lights show are other possible reasons to visit. If a particular event is the reason for your stay, check its date before booking your hotel around it.
