Baldwin: Parks, Riverfront and Local History
Accommodation in Baldwin
The Borough of Baldwin combines amenities at Elm Leaf Park with a historic building and a riverfront project. If you’re looking for a hotel in Baldwin, these different highlights can help you get a sense of local attractions for your stay: seasonal swimming, a community program, local history or nature along the river. Elm Leaf Park brings together playground and swimming amenities; the Eagle’s Landing Riverfront Park site, by contrast, is still under construction. The Log House adds a historic touch.
Elm Leaf Park: Seasonal Amenities and Reservations
Elm Leaf Park is home to the Borough of Baldwin’s Olympic-sized swimming pool. It is open to residents and non-residents each year from late May through early September. Check current operating information before your visit if you’re planning around the season. The largest pavilion follows a different rule: residents can reserve it from the second weekend in May through the last weekend in September. The reservation period starts earlier and ends later than the swimming season, but is expressly restricted to residents.
The park also has a new playground. Recent additions include horseshoe pits, a small pavilion, a newly built restroom and electricity at the pavilions. Together with the swimming pool, these offer different ways to enjoy the same park: playing, swimming and other designated park amenities.
A Weekly Community Program
The Sit & Fit program of the Baldwin Borough Senior Fitness Program has been extended through the end of 2026. Classes are held once a week in the evening, from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Sit & Fit is a gentle, chair-based exercise class designed to support strength, flexibility, balance and overall well-being. The weekly evening time provides a clear schedule. Check the schedule in advance if it matters to your plans, as later class schedules may change.
Riverfront Scenery and Birdwatching
The Eagle’s Landing Riverfront Park site is located along the Monongahela River and the Three Rivers Heritage Trail/Great Allegheny Passage. The project is under construction. The site includes natural areas along the municipal trail system and is well suited to birdwatching. A pair of bald eagles nests nearby. In contrast to Elm Leaf Park, with its designated playground and swimming amenities, the focus here is on riverfront scenery and observing nature. These two distinct highlights can help you get a sense of what to expect during your stay.
Log House: History and Tours
The Log House dates to 1830 and is believed to have originally belonged to the Willett family. It was formerly used for public educational programs, including Boy Scout meetings and vacation Bible school classes. Its construction date and former uses give the building distinct historical associations. The Baldwin Historical Society offers tours of the Log House by request and appointment; check current arrangements with the society before your visit.
