London hotels, which have collected almost all well-known titles in the global travel industry - from the most expensive to the smallest - does not stop to strive for even greater achievements in the hotel industry. More specifically, it is not for the city itself, but its architects and designers. So, the last most striking example of this commitment is the project of the hotel in the form of the ship on the roof of the Queen Elizabeth Concert Hall.
The project of the unique hotel was developed by architectural agency David Kohn Architects with artist Fiona Banner. It is planned that the opening of a new hotel-ship, whose "bow" looks over the Thames, will be held on the southern coast of the main water artery of the capital of the United Kingdom in December 2011, according to the British newspaper Daily Mail.
New hotel in London will be quite small. But, despite its small size, it will offer guests its own set of rules in accordance with centuries-old traditions of English hospitality. But the rules do not promise to burden people much. Thus, newly arrived residents of the hotel will be obliged to mark their checking in by solemn flag-raising ceremony at the top "deck" of the hotel. Taking into account the breathtaking view of the Thames, the flag-raising ceremony promises pleasant emotions to all participants.
The new hotel got its name - A Room for London. The hotel is built as a single room, which has two levels: upper and lower decks. According to the authors of the project, the inspiration for creation form of the new hotel was one of the novels of Joseph Conrad - "Heart of Darkness".
Booking of rooms in the new London hotel will be available from September 8, 2011. The first lucky people will be able to stay at the hotel in January 2011. As expected, booking in A Room for London will be possible in 2011 only for pre-Olympic period. Booking of rooms since July 2012 - the time when London will host the Olympics - will begin in January 2012.
