Legendary Beverly Hills Hotel celebrates 100-year anniversary

Tens or even hundreds of celebrities have been among the guests of the legendary hotel, which is considered as one of the classic Hollywood symbols. The hotel was opened by Margaret Anderson, a person, whose name is associated with another iconic Hollywood hotel - The Hollywood Hotel. It can be called the predecessor of "The Beverly Hills Hotel". However, the first project of Margaret Anderson was less fortunate - it was demolished. At the site, where was previously located The Hollywood Hotel, is now built the center, where "Oscar" award ceremonies are held.

Anyway, it is impossible to overestimate the importance of "The Beverly Hills Hotel" for the history of modern show business. In its swimming pool swam «The Beatles» and one of the bungalows for 30 years was occupied by the legendary billionaire Howard Hughes. Next to Hughes during the filming of "Let's Make Love" lived Marilyn Monroe and Yves Montand. In "Beverly Hills" were filmed dozens of famous Hollywood films with such celebrities as Gregory Peck and Faye Dannaway. The facade of the "Beverly Hills" hotel was placed on the cover of the Eagles album «Hotel California».

Today "The Beverly Hills Hotel" is owned by the Sultan of Brunei. He bought the hotel for $110 million. In 1995 the hotel was reopened after a major restoration, which cost its owners approximately $100 million.

"The Beverly Hills Hotel" actually caused the creation of the Beverly Hills suburb, which building around the hotel began only two years after the opening of the famous hotel. Today the Sunset Boulevard, where the hotel is located, along with the hotel is one of the main attractions of California.

The cost of rooms in "Beverly Hills" is today amounted at $500 per day.

Festive activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of The Beverly Hills Hotel will be held from 15 to 17 June, 2012. According to cbsnews.com, it will be attended by Warren Beatty and the head of the Dreamworks studio Jeffrey Katzenberg.
