Eastern Region: Waterfall, Nature and Paragliding
Accommodation in Eastern Region
The Eastern Region offers three distinct highlights to consider when planning your trip: the seasonal Boti Waterfall, guided plant exploration at Bunso Eco Park, and paragliding in Kwahu. They differ in the type of experience and in their timing.
Boti Waterfall: a seasonal natural attraction
The seasonal Boti Waterfall near Huhunya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality is about 30 metres high. Its seasonal nature is an important consideration when planning your visit. If the waterfall is your main reason for travelling, take this into account before setting your hotel dates. This keeps both the specific location and its height in view, as well as the timing of your visit.
Paragliding in Kwahu: origins and festival season
The paragliding event on Mount Odweanoma near Atibie Kwahu was introduced in 2005. The Kwahu Paragliding Festival takes place annually at Easter in Kwahu and includes three days of flight activities, ceremonies and music. The dates answer different questions: 2005 marks the event’s historical introduction, while Easter indicates the festival’s recurring time of year. If the festival is your reason for travelling, check the specific event dates for that year and coordinate your travel dates accordingly.
Bunso Eco Park: arboretum and zipline
At Bunso Eco Park, visitors can explore the arboretum on a guided tour and learn about native and exotic plants. The focus here is on a guided encounter with plants, distinguishing the visit from both the seasonal waterfall and the Easter festival. The park also has a 50-metre-long zipline, accessed by a rope suspension bridge that leads to it and back. Before travelling, check whether the guided tour is currently running and whether the zipline is operating.
Choosing a hotel based on your reason for travelling
When comparing specific hotel offers, also check the stated location and your travel dates. This keeps your choices aligned with your plans, rather than based only on a general regional name.
Ghana as a wider travel horizon
If you are also considering other parts of Ghana as you plan your trip, you can compare them separately. At Lake Bosomtwe in the Ashanti Region, activities include hiking, birdwatching, fishing and canoeing; the lake is one of the six UNESCO-designated biosphere reserves. Nzulezu, a stilt settlement on Lake Tadane, is in Ghana’s Western Region. The guided tour to Nzulezu starts at the visitor centre in Beyin and takes an hour by dugout canoe through aquatic habitats to Lake Tadane. Lake Bosomtwe offers several activities, while the guided journey is the main focus at Nzulezu.
