Helengili: Lagoon, House Reef and Marine Life
Accommodation in Helengili
Helengili is a lush green island in a turquoise lagoon teeming with marine life. Located on the northeastern edge of Malé Atoll, it lies at the entrance to an important sea channel. A house reef is just a few metres from the beach. The coast, reef and diving opportunities are among the features you can consider when choosing this destination.
House Reef and Marine Life
The house reef offers a colourful reef environment with sea turtles, lobsters and blacktip reef sharks. Marine animal sightings vary. Visitors can explore the lively reef just a few steps from shore or join guided snorkelling trips that focus on the diverse marine fauna of Malé Atoll. The house reef can also be explored while diving. Which animals divers see varies. When planning, you can therefore distinguish between exploring the reef close to shore and guided snorkelling trips on the one hand, and dives with possible wildlife encounters at the edge of the island on the other.
Diving in North Malé Atoll
TGI Diving Helengeli is a PADI 5-Star Dive Centre in North Malé Atoll. The centre offers diving experiences exclusively to guests of OBLU by Atmosphere at Helengeli. If diving is important to your travel decision, take this access restriction into account. Access and accreditation details may change, so check the current terms before your trip.
Excursions and Water Sports
The island plan includes one complimentary traditional handline fishing trip for every guest per stay, from 08:00 to 09:30. It also includes one complimentary local dhoni sunset cruise per guest per stay, from 17:15 to 18:30. These time slots give the two experiences different places in the daily schedule: the fishing trip is scheduled in the morning, and the dhoni cruise in the late afternoon. Guests can also use non-motorised water sports equipment, such as stand-up paddleboards and kayaks, free of charge; glass-bottom kayaks are excluded.
The Kids Nature Centre is an interactive learning space where young guests can discover nature above and below the water. The Overwater Gym offers complimentary access as well as weekly and seasonal group activities such as yoga and aerobics. As equipment, schedules and island plan inclusions may change, check the latest information before your trip.
Culture and Getting There
Every Friday, guests can enjoy a traditional Boduberu performance featuring Maldivian music, dance and drumming. If this activity is relevant to your trip, check the current schedule in advance.
Helengili is a 50-minute speedboat ride from Malé International Airport; actual travel time may vary depending on conditions. The island plan includes complimentary speedboat airport transfers on arrival and departure. Check the inclusions and transfer details for your travel dates before making plans based on them.
