Fint: Oasis, Landscape and Activities
Accommodation in Fint
Fint: Oasis, Villages and Landscape
Several small villages lie along the Oued Fint. Anti-Atlas volcanic rocks and date palms are also part of the oasis landscape. This gives you three concrete features by which to identify Fint: the settlements along the oued, the rocks and the palms. If you are looking for a destination with an oasis landscape, these elements set the scene for activities in the area.
Activities and Film Connections in Fint
Hiking is one of the tourist activities in the oasis. Other options include donkey rides, mountain biking excursions and quad bike excursions. The options differ mainly in how you get around: on foot, on a donkey, or by mountain bike or quad bike. This lets you choose an activity based on your own interests. Before your trip, check which activities are available on your dates.
In the Fint oasis, you can also visit filming locations of international films produced there. This film connection adds another topic to consider when planning, alongside outdoor activities. If you would like to include such a visit, check in advance whether it is possible on your travel dates.
The Province of Ouarzazate as a Broader Setting
Landscape and River Network
In the broader destination of the Province of Ouarzazate, the landscape ranges from vast stony plains and valleys cut by gorges on the eastern foothills of the Anti-Atlas in Ouarzazate Province to high, vertical rock faces on the southern foothills of the Central High Atlas. Jbel Azourki reaches 3,685 metres. The province therefore provides a broader geographical setting than Fint’s specific oasis landscape.
The river network of Ouarzazate Province includes the Dades, Ouarzazate and Ait Douchen rivers and their tributaries; together, they form the upper Drâa Basin.
History and Film
The Kasbah of Taourirt is located in Ouarzazate, in the Province of Ouarzazate. It has existed since the 12th century and was formerly the residence of Pasha el Glaoui. It has been recognized as a national cultural heritage site since 1953. Its architecture includes crenellated towers and cedarwood ceilings. Its history, former role as a residence and architectural features give the site a distinct cultural focus within the broader destination. Another historical point of interest in the Province of Ouarzazate is Telouet: for centuries, the village was an important transit point for caravans that had to pay customs duties to the Glaoui tribe.
The Ouarzazate Film Museum officially opened on 30 July 2007. It features film sets connected with biblical history and major films shot in the region. The film connection therefore differs from Fint: there, the focus is on possible visits to filming locations of international films produced in the oasis; the museum features sets with biblical and regional film connections.
