Named destinations in Oddar Meanchey Province include memorial sites and former residences, as well as temples, bridges, and waterfalls. The locations range from Cheung Phnom and Khleang Kandal in Anlong Veng District to villages in Chong Kal, Banteay Ampil, and Trapeang Prasat. When planning your trip and looking for a hotel, it is helpful to distinguish between similarly named historic sites and consider the province’s different themes.

Historic sites in different villages

Pol Pot’s cremation site and Ta Mok’s house are in Cheung Phnom Village. The cremation site covers 1.207 hectares, while the house covers 3.025 hectares. Another Ta Mok house is in Akphiwat Village: it was built on a 1.614-hectare site on October 17, 1993. The two houses are therefore associated with different villages; their place names are an important part of finding your way around.

Ta Mok’s transport worksite is another distinct location. It is in Khleang Kandal Village, Trapeang Prey Commune, Anlong Veng District, and covers 0.122 hectares. This figure differs considerably from the stated areas of the two houses and the cremation site. Cheung Phnom is also home to Mountain 200, a site for the production of recycled ammunition.

Another cremation site is that of Son Sen and his family members. It is in Srah Chhouk Village, Trapeang Prey Commune, Anlong Veng District. By contrast, the former houses of Pol Pot and Khieu Samphan are in O’Kra Nhoung Village, also in Trapeang Prey Commune, Anlong Veng District. The village names distinguish these individual sites, even though several are in the same district.

Bridges with different names and histories

The Ta Mok Bridge is also known as O’Chik Bridge. It is in O’Chunh Chean Village, Anlong Veng Commune, Anlong Veng District. Another bridge in the province is Toib Bridge, also called Teb Bridge. It is in Cheung Tien Village, Cheung Tien Commune, Chong Kal District. According to the description, Toib Bridge was built during the reign of Jayavarman VII in the late 12th century. The two pairs of names help distinguish the bridges; the historical context of Toib Bridge also offers a different perspective from the location details alone.

Temples and historical context

Ta Krabei Temple, also called Ta Ngwai Temple, is part of Khmer architecture dating from the 11th to 13th centuries. Prasat Chan is in Ta Moin Village, Kok Mon Commune, Banteay Ampil District. The temple is believed to have probably been a subsidiary temple of Ta Moan Thom Temple. It is thought to date to the 11th century, during the reign of King Suryavarman I. Both its classification as a subsidiary temple and its dating are explicitly tentative. Visitors interested in temple history will find two different timeframes here: a broader range for Ta Krabei and a probable date for Prasat Chan.

Waterfalls and their place names

The waterfalls, too, are worth looking up by their exact names. Da Champey Waterfall is also known as Ta Thong Cave Waterfall and Chambey Waterfall. It is in Roort Champei Village, O Smach Sangkat, Samrong City. O’Svay Waterfall is in O’Svay Village, O’Svay Commune, Trapeang Prasat District. O-Teuk-Chhol Waterfall is in Thmor Daun Village, Kork Mon Commune, Banteay Ampil District. Their different names and locations give you a concrete basis for considering these three waterfall destinations separately when planning your trip.
