Mecca: Culture, Landscapes and Nature Destinations
Accommodation in Mecca
The Mecca Region reveals a wide range of different facets: historic Jeddah lies on the eastern shore of the Red Sea, while rock formations, mountains and sand dunes shape the nature destinations near Al Lith in the southern coastal area. Taif is known both for its distinctive rose culture and for activities at rural resorts. This gives you a choice when planning your trip, depending on your interests: historic sites, landscape experiences or outdoor activities. Each place offers its own distinct impressions rather than a single, unified itinerary.
Culture and History
In historic Jeddah, Bab Makkah is a restored historic gate and also a place to shop. The specific range of goods may change.
The Hira Cultural District at the foot of Jabal al-Nour is a cultural and spiritual destination in Mecca. In Taif, the historic Shubra Palace is located outside the city wall, in the Shubra district. It is known for its distinctive architecture and historical significance. The sites offer different points of interest: Hira has a cultural and spiritual character, while architecture and history stand out at Shubra Palace.
Landscapes and Outdoor Activities
Mount Abu Sadaq lies north of Al Lith in the southern coastal area of the Mecca Region. Its striking rock formations were created by natural erosion over thousands of years. The mountain attracts visitors interested in desert trips and photography.
Ghumaiga Park and Viewpoint in Al Lith Governorate offers views of the surrounding mountain formations and sand dunes; it also has hiking trails. You can combine a scenic view with a walk there. As trail conditions may change due to maintenance, it is best to check them before your visit.
Rahwa Center in Wadi Dhahab features waterfalls and is also a destination for picnics and adventure activities. The nature destinations therefore differ in their focus: Abu Sadaq combines rock formations with an appeal for desert trips and photography, Ghumaiga offers views and hiking trails, and Rahwa has waterfalls and outdoor activities.
Taif: Roses and Resort Activities
Taif has more than 850 rose farms, as well as businesses that produce Taif rose water and perfume. Alongside landscapes and historic sites, this adds an agricultural and artisanal focus. Production volumes may change over time.
Rural resorts in Taif offer activities such as horseback riding, cycling through the mountains, hiking and mobile cultural libraries. These services are tied to individual resorts and may change. If you would like to plan such activities, check what the resort you choose offers. Ghumaiga Park has hiking trails, and Taif’s resorts also offer hiking.
