When choosing a destination around Karon, three highlights stand out: the character of Karon Beach, the panorama from nearby Karon View Point, and the Karon Temple Trail, which passes Wat Karon. If you’re looking for a hotel in Karon, this overview can help you clarify what interests you about the destination: are you mainly interested in the beach’s features, views of several beaches, or a route with a cultural connection? These topics offer different perspectives and do not describe one single, inseparable experience.

Karon Beach and Its Sections

Karon Beach is known for sand that makes a sound when you walk on it, and is considered a spot for watching sunsets. Thus, an audible feature underfoot and a view associated with the end of the day shape two distinct aspects of the beach. It is divided into Karon Noi Beach to the north and the straight stretch of Karon Yai Beach to the south. The names help you distinguish the two sections by their north-south location.

Panorama from Karon View Point

Karon View Point is located near Karon. From there, you can see Kata Yai Beach, Kata Noi Beach, and Karon Beach. The viewpoint was formerly called Kata View Point; if you come across this name, it refers to the same place. Unlike the division of Karon Beach into sections, the View Point offers a shared view of three beaches. This means the beach sections and the panorama offer different perspectives on Karon.

Wat Karon and the Temple Trail

The Karon Temple Trail begins in the center of Karon Beach and passes Wat Karon. The trail offers a route with a connection to a temple, while nearby Karon View Point opens up views of three beaches. Nearby Wat Karon, also known as Wat Suwan Khiri Khet, is on Patak Road, about 500 meters from Karon Beach. The temple complex includes an ordination hall, a preaching hall, a Dhamma hall, and residential buildings for monks. The three halls have different names; the monks’ residential buildings are also part of the complex. Wat Karon features Thai Buddhist architecture with intricate details and houses several Buddha statues. One of them is a rare statue in black sapphire. In the late 1930s, Wat Karon received the royal grant of Wisung Kham Sima.

Near Karon Beach, a small community market is located next to Wat Karon. Visitors can buy snacks and browse souvenirs there. Thus, the temple, with its religious and architectural features, and a market offering its own visitor activities are located right next to each other.

Surfing Competitions at Karon Beach

The Karon Fin Fest2 X Surftival, featuring surfing competitions for Thai and international surfers, took place at Karon Beach from August 16 to 17, 2025.
