Phillip brings together leisure activities, green spaces and distinctive examples of architectural and commemorative history. When choosing a hotel, you can first consider which themes you want to shape your stay: ice skating and swimming, a visit to a park, or architecture and history. These different highlights can help you tailor your search to your travel plans.

Ice Skating, Swimming and Leisure

The Phillip Swimming & Ice Skating Centre has a 1,500-square-metre ice rink. It can accommodate up to 250 skaters per session. The same centre also has swimming pools for lap swimming, recreational swimming and families. Swimming is available seasonally. If you are planning to swim during your trip, keep this seasonal limitation in mind when choosing your dates.

At the Hellenic Club Woden, Arcadia adds to the range of leisure activities: this family-friendly arcade features video games, interactive prize machines and ticket redemption games. Kivotos offers a Greek dining experience there. This means games and Greek cuisine provide different reasons to visit the same venue.

Parks and Memorial Sites

Eddison Park is a 14-hectare multi-purpose recreational area on the eastern edge of Woden Town Centre. Two memorials commemorate the loss of the three Eddison sons during the Second World War. The park thus combines recreational use with a specific place of remembrance. The annual Anzac Day commemorations began in 1992 and continue to attract hundreds of schoolchildren. The park is defined both by its size and by its enduring commemorative tradition.

Another trace of history can be found at Woden Cemetery: its planting and landscaping from the early 1930s are still visible today. Here, the emphasis is on the site's historic design. Eddison Park and the cemetery represent different ways in which Phillip’s history can be experienced: through memorials and recurring ceremonies on the one hand, and preserved landscaping on the other.

Architecture and Urban History

The Callam Offices combine a striking structure with a historic background. They were Australia’s first example of an office building whose entire perimeter structural frame is supported by suspension cables. They were designed for a flood plain after the 1971 Woden flood claimed seven lives. Both the structural concept and the response to the site are therefore part of their history.

The Callam Offices are also one of two large-scale office complexes designed in Canberra by John Andrews International. The other complex is the Cameron Offices in Belconnen. This connection offers a specific architectural comparison through their shared designer and the two office complexes.

Swinger Hill Cluster Housing is another example of the suburb’s built development. The housing complex was built in 1972 and is considered a notable example of medium-density housing. Its features include semi-detached and attached homes, low-maintenance gardens, courtyards and communal outdoor areas. The different elements show how shared outdoor spaces and private homes can be arranged alongside one another within a residential complex.
