Bulahdelah offers several points of interest for a stay: a heritage-listed courthouse with a museum, a community-owned golf course and a skatepark. There are also cultural and natural attractions in the surrounding area. When choosing your destination, you can weigh up local history, recreational activities and the nature nearby.

Courthouse and Regional History

The present-day Bulahdelah Courthouse was built in 1886 on a rise east of town and overlooks the Myall River. The heritage-listed building operates as a museum and houses extensive historical collections from the region. Its construction date, location and collection offer different ways to explore Bulahdelah’s history: you can place the building in its historical context, consider its riverside setting and explore the regional collections as a focus in their own right. If you are planning a museum visit, check the latest opening details in advance.

Golf and Recreation in Town

The Bulahdelah Golf Club is community-owned and has a nine-hole course. There are usually two tees per hole. The number of holes and tee positions together describe the course layout, giving you a clearer idea than the term “golf course” alone. Another local recreational option is the skatepark in Alum Mountain Park. Bulahdelah therefore offers different sporting venues: a facility with a defined golf-course layout and a skatepark in a named park.

Bulahdelah and the Myall Lakes

Bulahdelah is the western gateway to Myall Lakes National Park. A specific boating option is also associated with the town: Myall Lakes Getaway Houseboats, based in Bulahdelah, let you pilot a boat to the national park. If this option is important to your travel plans, check the current booking conditions. Bulahdelah’s position as the western gateway and the option to travel from here by boat to the park are two distinct indications of the town’s connection to the Myall Lakes.

Cultural Sites in the Surrounding Area

The Boolah-Dillah Track in Bulahdelah State Forest is a 2.2-kilometre loop that leads to the Worimi Cultural Area. Its length and loop format give the track a clear profile, while its destination is a distinct part of its description. Bulahdelah Mountain Aboriginal Place lies east of the township in Bulahdelah State Forest, at the confluence of the Myall River and Crawford River. The site is recognised as an Aboriginal Place. Its cultural, spiritual and historical significance to the Worimi is central.

Another historic site immediately east of the township is the place known as Former Alum Mine, also called Bulahdelah Mountain. Its features include a tramway, a spoil heap and a boiler wall. The tramway, heap and wall are distinct material traces of the former site, adding another historical focus to the perspective on regional history.

Landscape North of Bulahdelah

Bulahdelah State Conservation Area lies north of Bulahdelah and connects Myall Lakes National Park with Bulahdelah State Forest. It consists mainly of dry sclerophyll forest, with wet sclerophyll forest along Frys Creek. This contrast in vegetation is a notable feature of the area. The conservation area also protects habitat for the cycad species Macrozamia flexuosa. The surrounding area therefore offers the opportunity to understand the connection between two protected areas, the different forest types and the protected habitat of a specifically named plant species.
