A stay in Long Beach offers options for different nature and beach interests: Maloneys Beach is suitable for snorkelling, Square Head offers a viewpoint, and Reed Swamp Lagoon is a freshwater wetland of state significance.

Wetland and Coastal Landscape

Reed Swamp Lagoon is classified as a freshwater wetland of state significance. An outlet and an easement connect the lagoon to the beach. This brings together two landscape features: the wetland itself and its enduring relationship with the coast. For travellers interested in wetlands as well as beach activities, the lagoon provides a distinct focus. Its coastal connection also makes it a landmark distinct from snorkelling at Maloneys Beach and the viewpoint at Square Head.

Track to Square Head

Square Head Track 2 leads to the scenic Square Head. From there, views extend across Batemans Bay, Long Beach, Snapper Island and the two Tollgate Islands. The viewpoint brings several named destinations into a single panorama. If you want to choose an outing for a particular landscape view, Square Head is a clear destination. Access to Square Head in Cullendulla Creek Nature Reserve is via Blairs Road in Long Beach. This makes the scenic outing a separate planning option from a beach or snorkelling stop.

Maloneys Beach: Snorkelling and Facilities

Maloneys Beach in Long Beach is the first stop on the Batemans Bay Snorkelling Trail and is suitable for snorkelling. If you want to include a water activity in your travel plans, the beach offers a specific starting point on the trail. Maloneys Beach also has a grassy area, toilets, a boat ramp, electric barbecues and a covered picnic area. You can therefore include a picnic break in your visit as well as snorkelling. As facilities may change, check what is currently available before your visit.

A Planned Path Project

A local government project announcement dated 10 September 2025 proposed connecting two existing path sections to create a continuous 1.6-kilometre path from Long Beach Road to the Maloneys Beach foreshore. Completion was planned for the end of 2025; the project was intended to make walking easier and safer for the Long Beach community. The 1.6-kilometre figure refers to this planned connection, not to Square Head Track 2. The destinations also differ: the project was intended to lead to the Maloneys Beach foreshore, while the track leads to scenic Square Head. Check the current project status in advance.
