Gol Gol offers three specific points of interest to help plan your trip: James King Park, its main public open space; work along the riverfront; and the history of its former stagecoach stop. There is also the Gol Gol Hotel, located on the site of the original Gol Gol Inn. This can help you decide whether, when searching for a hotel, you want to focus mainly on the town itself, the river setting or the area's history.

James King Park as a public point of reference

The Council's 2024 Sports Master Plan describes James King Park as the main public open space in Gol Gol. The park includes eight tennis courts and a clubhouse, as well as a playground, a boat ramp and public toilets. Its facilities range from sports amenities to those for other kinds of recreation. The eight tennis courts highlight the sporting side of the open space; the playground, boat ramp and toilets serve other purposes. The clubhouse is also part of the park facilities described.

For orientation, the important point is that these facilities are grouped together: they are all within the same public park, rather than being described as separate destinations in different locations. Depending on whether you are interested in the tennis courts, playground or boat ramp, you will get a different perspective on the park. James King Park remains the shared point of reference.

Path and steps on the Gol Gol riverfront

In June 2024, the Council reported the completion of a 60 m path along the Gol Gol riverfront. It runs west from the Gol Gol boat ramp to an existing path beside the Sturt Highway. The directions make the connection specific: the starting point is the boat ramp, and the destination is an existing path; the highway provides a location reference for that path. At 60 m, the new link is short and clearly defined, and can be understood as a path connection along the riverfront.

Steps leading to the beach area on the riverfront have also been improved. The path and steps provide different points of reference: the path is described in terms of its length, direction and connection, while the steps provide access to the beach area. If you include the riverfront in your plans, you can distinguish between the short link to an existing path and the steps' connection to the beach.

Stagecoach stop and Gol Gol Inn

Gol Gol was historically significant because it was once an important stagecoach stop. The Gol Gol Inn offered horse changes, comfort and accommodation. These features illustrate the area's former role as a stop along the way: the station was associated with changing horses and places to stay.

The Gol Gol Hotel is located on the site of the original Gol Gol Inn. Today, it is a meeting place and somewhere to eat. Two periods of history therefore come together in one specific location: the former inn was associated with provisions for stagecoach travel, while the hotel today is a place to meet and dine. The inn's former accommodation function and the Gol Gol Hotel's current role can thus be seen as different parts of the area's history.

Connection to the water and getting there

Gol Gol is now considered a popular place for water activities; James King Park includes a boat ramp. The town's general connection to the water and a specific named facility are therefore both part of the picture. For travelling from Mildura, driving time offers a practical guide: the drive to Gol Gol takes about ten minutes and may vary depending on conditions.

If you are looking for a hotel in Gol Gol, start with your intended destination and compare specific offers for your travel dates. The park, riverfront and local history provide different points of reference when choosing where to stay. Check the details that matter for your trip in any specific offer.
