Werai: Discover Farm Life and Heritage
Accommodation in Werai
Werai is in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. The town combines a rural setting with experiences centred on farming and horses, as well as local heritage. For planning your trip, these themes can be considered separately: they range from produce grown on the property to events and the historic Werai railway gatehouse.
Agriculture, Landscape and Food
The cattle property of Snake Creek Cattle Company covers 1,400 acres in Werai’s scenic valleys. Land area and land-use details may change. Kangaroos, wombats and Australian birds live on the property; individual sightings are not guaranteed.
The farm has its own bakery. It makes gourmet pies using local ingredients, including grass-fed meat and produce from the property. Options include beef or lamb, as well as vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free fillings. The range may change. For travellers interested in local food, the bakery brings together a variety of ingredients and pie options in one place.
Farm Tours, Horses and Events
Snake Creek Cattle Company offers farm tours in a Land Rover. They are suited to school groups, friends, colleagues and families. Participants learn about cattle, native wildlife and sustainable agriculture. Bookings and group conditions may change.
There are also dedicated facilities for horses and events. The Ranch Arena has spectator areas, seating stands, lighting and a public address system. Its facilities also include a 60 × 40 sand arena, a wash bay and tie-up rails. In addition, there are overnight and holding areas with shade, water troughs and secure tie-up areas. The property’s facilities are intended for training clinics, horse events, and small agricultural displays and demonstrations; programmes and dates may change.
The Saddlers Shed can accommodate 40 guests for meetings, conferences or workshops. Event packages may change. The options available on site are therefore quite distinct: from farm tours covering agricultural and natural history topics to meetings and events in purpose-built facilities.
Farm Stays and Accommodation
Snake Creek Cattle Company offers a range of farm stay experiences. Ranch Camp includes four unique tiny houses. There are also designated campsites intended for competitors and their horses. These offerings differ in format and target audience; camping is specifically limited to participants and horses. Configuration and availability may change. Confirm current availability before booking.
Heritage at Werai Railway Station
The Werai railway gatehouse is a locally listed heritage item on Greenhills Road. Its heritage value also includes the large conifer and cypress plantings along the gatehouse property boundary. Local heritage therefore encompasses both the building and the planting along its boundary.
