Glengarry: Wine, Farm Experiences and Nature
Accommodation in Glengarry
Glengarry combines farm experiences, winegrowing and a nearby natural attraction. Yimarra Farm offers alpaca tours, while Grey Sands Vineyard combines its own winegrowing with a garden of rare plants that serves as its cellar door. ForknFarm Homestead offers accommodation and cooking workshops; Killiecrankie Farm sells Christmas trees seasonally. The Notley Gorge Walking Track adds a nearby walking route to the selection. The offerings differ both in theme and in how they need to be planned.
Farm Experiences and Nearby Nature
Yimarra Farm offers alpaca tours in Glengarry, in the West Tamar region. The Notley Gorge Walking Track is nearby: the 1.4-kilometre walking track is in Notley Gorge State Reserve, between Glengarry and Bridgenorth. This puts a farm experience in Glengarry and a walking track nearby side by side as different options. When choosing, you can decide whether an alpaca tour or a walk in the reserve better suits your travel interests.
Wine and Food at Grey Sands Vineyard
Grey Sands Vineyard grows all the grapes used for its wines exclusively in its own vineyard. The two-hectare garden of rare plants serves as the cellar door; visits are available by appointment. Tasmanian produce platters are also available with 48 hours’ notice. The requirements apply to two different offerings: you need to make an appointment to visit the cellar door, while produce platters require the stated advance notice. If you would like to do both, keep the requirements separate. The vineyard’s own grape-growing and the garden used as its cellar door give the property a clear connection to wine and gardens.
Accommodation and Cooking Workshops at ForknFarm
ForknFarm Homestead offers accommodation on its Glengarry property. The 24-acre property offers panoramic views of the West Tamar wine region. ForknFarm also offers hands-on cooking workshops on cheesemaking, sausage-making and sourdough. The Homestead therefore offers both accommodation and specific cooking topics. The workshops add a practical focus alongside Grey Sands’ connections to wine and gardens.
Christmas Trees on Selected Dates
Killiecrankie Farm was established in 2007 as Tasmania’s first pick-your-own Christmas tree farm. Christmas trees are sold on a few selected weekends each year, from the last weekend in November until mid-December. Entry is with a timed pass booked online through Eventbrite. As of 27 August, the exact dates and prices for 2026 had not yet been published. Check the dates and booking conditions for the timed pass before travelling.
The offerings require different kinds of advance planning: an appointment for the cellar door, 48 hours’ notice for produce platters, and a timed pass for a selected date for the Christmas tree sale. Plan your dates around the activities you intend to do in Glengarry.
