Kettering: Coastal Walks, Bushland and Island Views
Accommodation in Kettering
In Kettering, you can plan your trip around specific landscape and timing questions: the walks differ in their views, vegetation and stated walking times. There is also the SeaLink ferry to Bruny Island. For a stay that includes walks, it is therefore helpful to compare not only the names of the tracks, but also their respective highlights.
Coastal Views and Nature on the Kettering Point Track
The Kettering Point Track is an easy walk near the coast and leads through lightly wooded coastal bushland. Birds, orchids and wildflowers can be seen along the track; shell middens of Aboriginal people are also located along the route. The track offers panoramic views of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and Bruny Island. If you would like to experience both plant and bird life and coastal views on one walk, you will find that combination here.
The Kettering Point Track is a 3 km loop, with a stated walking time of one hour. A new section of the track connects Kettering Point with Trial Bay. As route conditions can change, check the conditions on this section before visiting.
Bushland and Little Oyster Cove on the Oval Track
The Oval Track has different highlights: it passes through the Kettering Bushland Garden into the bushland behind the Kettering Oval. It also runs along the coast to a seating area with a view of Little Oyster Cove. This loop is listed as 1 km long, with a walking time of 30 minutes. The comparison with the Kettering Point Track is clear: 1 km and 30 minutes compared with 3 km and one hour. This makes it easy to compare the stated time frames for the two loops, while their descriptions highlight different landscape impressions.
Another Landscape Highlight: Manuka Hills Track
The Manuka Hills Track offers views of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and kunanyi/Mt Wellington. It passes through threatened silver peppermint forest. This route therefore highlights both two named viewpoints and a specific type of forest. If you compare walks by their landscape impressions, the threatened forest is a distinct highlight here, alongside the coastal and bushland features of the other tracks.
Bruny Island by Ferry and Chamber Music in Kettering
The SeaLink ferry from Kettering to Bruny Island takes about 15 minutes. Check the current crossing time and operating details again before your trip. Bruny Island is also one of the panoramic destinations visible from the Kettering Point Track; the ferry, in contrast, is a separate crossing from Kettering to the island. For your planning, the view and the ferry crossing therefore remain two different ways to include Bruny Island in your trip.
Chamber music can also be a reason to travel. A Kettering Concerts community page, updated on 6 November 2022, lists six to seven chamber music concerts in Kettering each year. If a concert is the reason for your trip, check the current schedule in advance.
