Discover Pipers River
Accommodation in Pipers River
Pipers River is considered Tasmania’s northernmost wine region. When choosing a place to stay, the landscape, wine offerings and local history provide different points of interest. The clearest distinctions are between guided sparkling wine experiences, a nature and winemaking experience, and an explicitly history-focused experience.
Wine Country and Tastings
The wine region is shaped by its cool climate, ancient soils and the river that flows from Mount Arthur to the Bass Strait. These landscape features give the term terroir a regional context: it draws attention to a wine’s connection with its surroundings. House of Arras has its cellar door in Pipers River. Its guided seated tastings highlight Tasmania’s unique regional terroir, as well as the history and craftsmanship behind sparkling wine. Terroir, origin and craftsmanship thus provide a combined perspective on sparkling wine. If you would also like to consider its regional background during a tasting, this connection is a specific criterion to help guide your choice.
Nature, Winemaking and Sparkling Wine
House of Arras’s Wine, Wildlife & Vineyard Walk connects nature with the art of winemaking. The Sparkling Wine Masterclass is led by the expert team and focuses on sparkling wine. The experiences can be compared by their different emphases: the seated tasting focuses on terroir, history and craftsmanship; the walk on the connection between nature and winemaking; and the masterclass on sparkling wine, guided by the expert team. This makes it easier to decide whether you are looking for a tasting, a connection with nature or a guided masterclass.
History and Local Points of Interest
The Ultimate Delamere Experience takes place at Delamere’s cellar door and vineyard in Pipers River. It includes a 45-minute session with winemaker Shane Holloway or Fran Austin, tracing the history of Pipers River and Delamere. Availability is subject to appointment. At 45 minutes, the conversation is clearly defined in length, making it easier to fit into your day’s plans.
The Pipers River Board Walk site is home to the Reg Yates Memorial Interpretation Centre in Pipers River, Tasmania. Unlike the Delamere experience, which includes a session covering two named historical topics, the specific local connection here is between the boardwalk and the interpretation centre. A scheduled conversation with winemakers and a site with a named memorial and interpretation centre therefore offer different points of interest.
Before You Plan
