If coastal activities and walks are among your travel interests, Cervantes offers a range of options. These include the local beaches and water sports, the Thirsty Point Trail, and nearby Lake Thetis.

Coast and water sports

Aragon Street Foreshore is Cervantes’ main beach and makes a good place to stop. The shores feature pristine white beaches, islands and reefs that can be enjoyed for swimming, snorkelling, diving, boating and fishing. Thirsty Point is a popular spot for kitesurfing and windsurfing, and also offers a good vantage point overlooking the Cervantes Islands.

Walks and seasonal nature

The Thirsty Point Trail is an easy coastal walk between Thirsty Point and Hansen Lookout. It is 1.88 km each way. The route offers impressive coastal and ocean views for most of its length, and there are informative signs along the way. You can join the trail from either end or from the middle; it is also pet-friendly. Wildflowers may be visible along the trail between August and October.

Lake Thetis and the Pinnacles

An easy 1.5 km loop trail runs around Lake Thetis. Lake Thetis is a saline coastal lake near Cervantes and one of only a few places in the world with living marine stromatolites. The microorganisms that form stromatolites resemble the earliest life forms on Earth. The trails also differ in how their lengths are stated: the Thirsty Point Trail is listed as 1.88 km each way, while the Lake Thetis trail is a 1.5 km loop. Conditions on the Lake Thetis trail can change, so check the current route conditions before your walk.

The Pinnacles Desert Lookout and Drive is also near Cervantes. The 4.5 km driving route passes through limestone formations. It adds a route travelled by car to the walking trails.
