Green Head: Coastal Walk, Bays and Art
Accommodation in Green Head
Green Head is situated on a prominent headland. The coastline and bays define the town, alongside water-based activities, art galleries and a regional natural area east of town. It is therefore worth considering several aspects when choosing a destination: a specific coastal route, various water activities and cultural connections each offer a different focus.
Coastline and bays
The Three Bays Walk starts at Cliff Park on Ocean View Drive in Green Head. The coastal walk is 2.8 kilometres long and follows the shoreline. Along the way, it offers views of South Bay, Dynamite Bay and Little Anchorage. This brings three named bays into the setting of a single route, rather than limiting your plans to one coastal spot.
The route’s length and coastal course are its main features; Dynamite Bay stands out as a distinctive landscape highlight for its calm, turquoise water. This distinction helps you decide whether to plan for a walking route or a specific named coastal spot.
Water-based activities
Point Louise is Green Head’s main surf spot and also an excellent place for snorkelling. Both activities are associated with the same named location. Visitors interested in coastal experiences will find a different focus here than on the Three Bays Walk: surfing and snorkelling take centre stage at Point Louise, while the walk focuses on the route along the shoreline and views of three bays.
Both surf fishing and deep-sea fishing are also possible in Green Head. For travellers who want to plan their time by the water around their interests, the distinction between fishing in the surf and deep-sea fishing provides a practical guide. These two types of fishing add further options to the water activities already mentioned.
The Green Head Maritime Facility is close to the town centre and has a service jetty, boat ramp, fish-cleaning facilities and parking. South Bay also has a boat ramp. Together with the fishing opportunities, these features provide a specific maritime dimension to the town: the orientation includes not only activities but also named facilities and two locations with boat ramps.
Art and the regional natural area
Art adds another dimension. The Green Head Gallery Cafe is associated with coastal landscape artist Deb O'Brien. Adrian and Irene Toomey's Blue Ocean Gallery is opposite Dynamite Bay and includes an outdoor sculpture park. Local art connections therefore range from an association with an artist to outdoor sculptures.
Lesueur National Park lies east of Green Head, in the wider surrounding region, and is home to more than 900 plant species. This broadens the picture beyond the coast and maritime activities: the town’s profile is defined mainly by its shoreline, bays and water activities, while the national park offers a distinct connection to nature through its plant diversity.
Considering Green Head as a destination
If you are considering Green Head for a hotel trip, you can start by basing your choice on the mix of coastal scenery, activities and cultural experiences you want. The town brings several travel interests together in one destination; you can then choose a specific hotel based on the booking details that matter for your stay.
