Discover Medovo: Village Culture and Wine
Accommodation in Medovo
Medovo offers ways to explore culture, landscapes and wine: from the Church of St. Nicholas and traditional celebrations to crafts and wine tastings. These different highlights give you a practical basis for planning your time in the village.
Location and Landscape Around Medovo
Medovo lies at the foot of the Aytoska Stara Planina, on a hilly slope facing north. From the heights above the village, views are possible towards Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Ravda, Aheloy and Pomorie. This makes its elevated position a distinctive feature of the landscape, while the Aheloy River offers another natural feature in the surrounding area: the river curves north of Medovo, and the Aheloy Reservoir lies along it.
When planning, you can distinguish between two different perspectives on the surroundings: the hills above Medovo and the river with its reservoir. The municipal administration suggests a one-day hike called “In the Footsteps of Tsar Simeon.” It is important to note that this is a suggestion, not a fixed offer. The description gives the hike’s duration as one day but provides no further details about its route or difficulty.
Church, Celebrations and Crafts
The Church of St. Nicholas was founded in 1870. It is open only on major religious holidays. So if you plan to visit, confirm the date locally in advance. Medovo also traditionally hosts celebrations that visitors can observe. If you would like to attend a particular celebration, check its date before your trip.
Chateau Medovo, an ethnographic tourist complex, is located in Medovo. On its Crafts Street, visitors can make items using traditional Bulgarian craft techniques. The architecture also makes its own statement: it is inspired by the Bulgarian National Revival period and features dry-stone masonry, original wooden details and paved lanes within the complex. Craft activities, architectural style and building materials are thus distinct aspects of a visit.
Wine, Cuisine and Accommodation
Wine tastings are offered in Chateau’s specially equipped wine-tasting room. Medovo also has a restaurant serving authentic Bulgarian cuisine with folk entertainment. Wine tours are organized at wineries in the surrounding area. These are different ways to include wine and local cuisine in your trip: a tasting at the complex, a tour at a winery or a restaurant visit with folk entertainment. The mineral water in Medovo and at the ethnographic complex is considered suitable for balneological treatments.
Chateau Medovo offers year-round accommodation in seven two-room apartments and seven detached two-storey houses. If you are considering these accommodation options for a particular trip, check current availability for your dates.
