Pchelin offers travelers a clear connection to nature and history: a protected rocky area lies within the village’s land, while archaeological and historical themes add to the local history. The wine and festival culture of Sungurlare Municipality is another regional consideration when choosing a hotel. This lets you decide whether your trip will focus primarily on geology, cultural heritage, or a cultural event on the calendar.

The Chiflikova Niva Natural Landmark

The natural landmark “Rock Formations in Chiflikova Niva” lies within the land of Pchelin, in Sungurlare Municipality in Burgas Province. Its purpose is to protect notable geological features. It was designated by Order No. 4051 of December 29, 1973. The designation therefore focuses on the geological formations themselves.

An order dated March 9, 2026, gives the area as 81.291 decares, replacing the previous figure of 80 decares. This also clarifies the timeline for the two area figures: 80 decares is the earlier figure, and 81.291 decares is the figure in the 2026 order.

Archaeological and Historical Points of Interest

Remains of a Roman fortress have been found in the immediate vicinity of Pchelin. Other historical local landmarks include old wells on the outskirts of the village. The natural landmark, fortress remains, and wells thus represent different themes and locations: the village’s land, its immediate surroundings, and its outskirts.

The municipal road BGS3270 is also part of the area’s geographical context. It is 2.870 kilometers long and runs through the lands of Vezhenkovo, Manolich, Velislav, and Pchelin.

Wine and Cultural Traditions of Sungurlare Municipality

Different grape varieties are grown around the town of Sungurlare and in Slavyantsi. In Sungurlare, the collection of the Museum of Viticulture and Winemaking is housed in a restored, traditionally built two-story house dating from 1882. This example connects the regional wine tradition with a specific historic building.

The Church of St. Archangel Michael in Sungurlare also features wood carvings of vines and grapes. The motifs reflect the area’s traditional livelihood. For travelers interested in regional cultural history, viticulture and its significance are expressed in different ways: in a museum collection and in the design of a church interior.

Recurring Event Dates

Sungurlare Municipality celebrates Trifon Zarezan every year on February 14 for vine growers and winemakers. The gathering “The Valley of Vines Sings and Dances” takes place on the first Saturday in June. The dates offer different points of reference: a fixed day in February and a June date tied to a day of the week. If a festival is the reason for your trip, check the specific date for the year you plan to travel.
