Equestrian Sports as a Programme Highlight
Horse competitions were held in Seltse in 2023 and again in 2024 as part of the recurring local programme. The competition format at the tenth edition of the Seltse tournament in 2023 included one discipline with four courses. Hundreds of equestrian sports enthusiasts from different generations watched the competition at the village stadium in 2023.
Folklore and Village Festivals
The “Hristo A. Gradechliev-2005” cultural centre was founded in 2005. It is considered a place where Bulgarian traditions, customs and spiritual values are collected, preserved and passed on. Its authentic folklore group of 13 members takes part in folklore gatherings and opens the village festivities.
At Seltse’s traditional village festival in 2024, authentic songs and dances from Dobrudzha were part of the programme. The celebration was planned for the village square; check the current festival programme if you plan to visit in the future. Dozens of guests, residents, amateur performers and cultural workers came together for the celebration marking the cultural centre’s 20th anniversary.
Production and Practical Information
Local vegetable growers contributed prizes to the 2024 festival raffle. A grower in Seltse cultivated tomatoes, watermelons and cabbage on 60 decares in the 2020 season, focusing on pink tomato varieties.

Kavarna as the Wider Context
The wider destination of Kavarna offers additional coastal and cultural themes. The beaches in Kavarna Municipality cover a total of 74,000 square metres. Bolata is the only sandy beach in the Kaliakra area; a steep path leads north to the top edge of the cliff, which offers a wide view over the gorge.
The Ethnographic Complex of Kavarna includes a house museum, a restored shoemaker’s workshop, a lace-making workshop and a courtyard. It presents cultural characteristics of the Dobrudzhan, Gagauz and Kotlenzi communities. St George’s Church in Kavarna was built in 1836, and the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin in 1860.
At Yaylata, a cave settlement comprises 101 dwellings that were already inhabited in the 5th millennium BC. There is also an early Byzantine fortress and five ancient necropolises. The 23rd edition of Kavarna’s traditional mussel and fish festival was held in 2026. The programme included public cooking demonstrations and tastings of mussels, Black Sea fish and other seafood.
