Moskovets: Wine Tastings and Local History
Accommodation in Moskovets
You can combine two themes when planning your trip to Moskovets: wine experiences at Chateau Copsa and the history of the settlement. The chateau is in the village; the historical traces date back to the second half of the 16th century.
Wine Tastings and Chateau Copsa
Chateau Copsa is a winery founded in the Rose Valley in 1998. The chateau is described as combining the grandeur of a medieval stone castle with oval towers. During the wine tastings, the grape variety, color, aroma, taste, and finish are explained. This lets you connect your impressions while tasting with specific characteristics of the wine. Restaurant offerings and spa treatments are also available to visitors.
Activities and Seasonal Conditions
At Chateau Copsa, you can enjoy wine tastings, walks, horseback riding, and yoga. The outdoor pool is surrounded by nature and is seasonal. The facilities also include a children's playground and a play tent. Activities may depend on the season or require a booking; family facilities may also change. Check the date and availability of the activity you are interested in beforehand. In Karlovo Municipality, mountain biking options range from short, easy rides on gentle terrain to technically demanding full-day tours that require considerable skill and equipment.
Maison Copsa as Accommodation
Maison Copsa is a boutique art hotel a short distance from Chateau Copsa. The property includes the Zelanos restaurant and a lobby. Both are part of the hotel; offerings at the nearby chateau are separate.
The History of Former Tatare
The settlement in what is now Moskovets was formerly known as Tatare. Tatars settled there in the second half of the 16th century, around 1580. After the Bulgarian unification, Turkish residents of Tatare began emigrating to the Ottoman Empire; Bulgarians from surrounding villages also settled there. Before the unification, Tatare had one of the largest communal pastures of the Gyopsa nahiya in the Karlovo area. These milestones provide a historical context for the village that extends beyond its present-day connection with wine.
Winegrowing and Rose Blossoms
A Trifon Zarezan celebration in 2018 also connects Moskovets with winegrowing: at the event, the vines were pruned and the vineyard was blessed with red wine. The celebration included performances by the women's group Karavelski Slavey and the men's group Veselyatsi. Rose gardens near Moskovets are another connection to regional produce. There, rose blossoms are hand-picked and carefully dried to preserve their beneficial compounds and natural color. Wine tastings at Chateau Copsa and the processing of rose blossoms thus represent different facets of the village and its surroundings.
