Coast and Landscape

The coast of the municipality of Byala is steep and varied, combining rocky shores, small bays, sandy beaches and sand dunes to create a diverse coastal character. Byala’s coastal beach, together with deciduous woodland, is considered a described landscape motif.

Geology

White Rocks is accessible to visitors and displays a continuous rock profile extending for two kilometers. The Cretaceous and the Tertiary can be distinguished along this profile. White Rocks also contains fossils of prehistoric marine organisms, including sea urchins and mollusks. The rock structure and fossils are therefore independent features of this coastal site, making both the chronological classification and the former marine life forms visible in the same profile.

Sports and Excursions

The Chernomorets Sports Complex has a six-lane, 400-meter athletics track with a tartan surface. The complex also includes a mini football pitch with artificial turf, an outdoor fitness area and two streetball courts. A multipurpose court can be used for tennis, volleyball and basketball and is illuminated for later use. The sports facility therefore combines athletics, ball sports and fitness in several clearly designated areas.

The facilities are thus distributed across different types of sport: the tartan surface belongs to the six-lane running track, while the artificial turf belongs to the mini football pitch. Separate outdoor areas are provided for fitness and streetball, including two streetball courts. The multipurpose court brings together tennis, volleyball and basketball; its lighting is expressly intended for later use. The offerings listed therefore differ in terms of area, surface and sport.

The White Rocks ATV Safari explores the coastal areas of Byala and includes a stop at White Rocks. The route is approximately 32 kilometers long and takes around 90 minutes on average. The approximate figures for distance and duration indicate the time frame of the excursion, while the coastal sections and the stop at the rock profile form its two named components.

History and Viticulture

The Antique Fortress at Cape St. Athanasius was opened to visitors in 2014 following a restoration and conservation project. The Antique Fortress houses Winery No. 1, a preserved production and storage complex with a lever spindle press. The site therefore preserves both the historic fortress and a specific testament to wine processing. The restoration, the opened fortress and the preserved winery technology belong to different chronological and material levels of the same site.

Byala is associated with viticulture and winemaking; the town is also considered a place of production for Dimyat wine. Thus, alongside the ancient wine production, the town’s later or continuing connection with viticulture and the specifically named grape variety are also part of the picture.
