Discover Varna: Culture, Coast and Hotel

Varna combines an exceptional archaeological treasure with the coast, the city’s history and a diverse cultural calendar. At the city’s Archaeological Museum, the treasure of the Varna Chalcolithic Necropolis is presented as the world’s oldest technologically worked gold. In addition, Varna’s Roman Thermae are among the city’s best-preserved ancient architectural sites. The historical traces therefore appear in different forms: as a precious find and as preserved ancient architecture, each at its own location within the city.

Culture and History

Natural history also has a clear regional focus in Varna. The Natural History Museum researches and promotes the organisms of the Black Sea and the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. It displays 1,036 exhibits in six exhibition halls. The cultural selection extends far beyond individual museums and buildings. Varna’s cultural calendar includes almost 50 festivals and hundreds of events throughout the year. Alongside the permanently accessible collections and historic sites, this means that the city’s public cultural life also includes programmes that change over time.

An established part of this event landscape is the Varna Summer International Music Festival. Its tradition in Varna dates back to 1926. Another historic place to visit is the Euxinograd Residence, which is open to tourists. The route leads through the historic core of the park, to the greenhouses, the palace, the sundial, the chapel and the winery building. The individual stops thus combine the history of the park, architecture and garden areas within a clearly defined circuit.

Water and Coast

Varna and Varna Bay offer numerous water sports opportunities. These include stand-up paddleboarding, wakeboarding, jet skiing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing. Clubs, schools and equipment rental services are available for these activities. The selection therefore includes both board- and motor-based options as well as wind- and sailing-related activities. The Sea Station offers another view of the bay: its panoramic terrace overlooks Varna Bay.

Varna’s Sea Garden stretches along the waterfront. The park combines landscaped areas with quiet avenues, diverse vegetation and cultural monuments. Here, the coastal landscape, park spaces and views of the bay form part of a shared urban setting. The Sea Garden thus complements the bay’s open waters with a green waterfront park featuring its own paths and monuments.

City Routes and Arrival

Varna’s central pedestrian zone runs from Independence Square along Knyaz Boris I Boulevard to the entrance of the Sea Garden. It includes cycle paths, signposts, landscaped areas and accessible architecture.

Bus 409 runs from the airport to the city centre; the journey takes less than 20 minutes. Varna-East Port is one kilometre from the city centre and close to Varna railway station.
