Landhuis Grote Berg is located in Grote Berg, north of Weg naar Westpunt. It stands on a hill and occupies a prominent position in the landscape. Its architecture and the surviving remains of the buildings give the site a tangible historical reference point.

Landhuis Grote Berg: Architecture and historic fabric

Among the surviving remains is a fornu di pan. The landhuis also includes other buildings, such as a servants’ residence. These elements complement the main building, offering insights into the different structures that make up the landhuis.

The landhuis has two storeys and a steep hipped roof with dormer windows. Triangular pediments are located on the sides of the hipped roof. Those interested in historic architecture can distinguish these features: the hipped roof defines the roof’s shape, while the dormers and pediments add individual details to the roof and its sides. Together with its hillside location and surviving outbuildings, they create a multifaceted picture of the landhuis.

Den Paradera: Medicinal herbs and garden areas

On the eastern side of Curaçao, Den Paradera welcomes visitors who want to learn more about the use of medicinal herbs. The garden includes a botanical garden, a historic garden, and a production area with a shop. The different areas give the visit a clear focus: medicinal herbs and their uses, alongside gardening and production. Call ahead, as special opening hours or exceptions may apply on public holidays.

Punda is the oldest part of Willemstad. The district was established in the 17th century on the eastern side of Sint Anna Bay, next to Fort Amsterdam. It was the only district in the city with a defensive system of walls and ramparts. The Savonet Museum tells the story of the Savonet plantation and the neighboring Savonet area in a 19th-century plantation house.

The Curaçao Museum covers topics ranging from Curaçao’s geological history and pre-Columbian artifacts to maps and diagrams of the Americas and the Caribbean. It also explores occupations, beliefs, and the way of life of Afro-Curaçaoans after the abolition of slavery, and features a traditional plantation kitchen. Landhuis Chobolobo is a 19th-century country house where, among other things, Blue Curaçao liqueur is made.

Past land use and today’s landscape are also among Curaçao’s attractions: Hòfi Mango Park was once a plantation and contains more than 700 mango trees. Hato Cave features limestone formations, pools, a waterfall, and a statue of the Madonna. The cave covers an area of 4,900 m². A colony of long-nosed fruit bats lives inside; they are rarely seen.

In Christoffelpark, the northern route (blue) and the mountain route (green) are paved and can be driven in any car. Bromeliads, orchids, lichens, and Spanish moss grow along a hiking trail in the park. At Shete Boka National Park, visitors can walk above the cave along the limestone cliffs. These parks offer different highlights: the marked routes and plants at Christoffelpark, and the path above the cave at Shete Boka National Park.
