Culture and History
Trebinje combines religious sites, historic monuments, landscapes and trails. Hercegovačka Gračanica is located in Trebinje. It was built to fulfill the wish expressed in the will of Jovan Dučić. The entire complex was completed in 2000. In addition to the church, the complex includes a bell tower, a bishop’s palace and an amphitheater. It also includes a souvenir shop and the “Dučićev pogled” summer restaurant. Hercegovačka Gračanica is located 2.6 km from the center of Trebinje and can be reached on foot.

Another historic site in Trebinje is the Perović (Arslanagić) Bridge. It is a monument from the Ottoman period. Mehmed Pasha Sokolović had it built in 1574. The bridge occupies an important place in 16th-century Balkan architecture. It is 1.2 km from the center of Trebinje and can also be reached on foot. Its dating links the specific construction to the Ottoman era and the architectural history of the 16th century.
Tvrdoš Monastery is located west of Trebinje, exactly 5 km away. It stands on the right bank of the Trebišnjica. It was built on the foundations of a 4th-century church. The monastery is one of the oldest cultural and historical monuments in Republika Srpska. Its location on the riverbank and the remains of the aforementioned foundations are just as relevant to its historical classification as the site’s chronological depth.
The Herzegovina Wine Route passes through Trebinje.
The Museum of Herzegovina occasionally hosts exhibitions, poetry readings, book presentations and music concerts. The events therefore include exhibitions as well as literary and musical formats. The program thus ranges from visual presentations through literature to music; the individual formats remain described as occasional events.
Landscape and Trails
The Trebišnjica is a 98 km-long sinking river. It was once the largest in Europe. Its present-day description combines the specific river length with the historical comparison of size, which explicitly refers to an earlier period.
The Skywalk is a viewpoint offering panoramic views of Trebinje and the surrounding area. Thus, in addition to the river course, an elevated viewpoint is also part of the described landscape perspective.
When mountain biking around Trebinje, the routes follow Austro-Hungarian roads. They also lead to the ancient sites of Strač, Golo Brdo and Petrina. Through the project to revitalize the former narrow-gauge Ćiro railway line, Trebinje has become part of a regional network of cycling routes. The combination of roads, ancient sites and the former railway project describes different spatial reference points of the cycling network without reducing the mentioned routes to a single path.
Visit
Trebinje’s tourist information center offers city maps and souvenirs. The range also includes local handicraft products. Visitors can hire a licensed tour guide there. Public visitor information thus includes orientation materials and local products, as well as an explicitly stated option for assistance from a licensed tour guide.
In the heart of Trebinje lies Ljetna bašta Platani. Under the natural shade of 16 large plane trees, it offers more than 500 seats. The location is therefore clearly described by its central position, natural shade and stated seating capacity.
